The Marlins have created a new MLB record which should stand for at least 6 years when the Yankees return to South Florida
The Marlins have set a definite al time world record for percentage of visiting team fans in a stadium at over 90%. It surely was greater than 90% Yankees fans at Landshark Stadium yesterday.
In what had the atmosphere of a Yankees game in the Bronx, Andy Pettitte's strong pitching led New York past Florida.

the Marlins fans -- who were lightly scattered among the 35,027 in attendance --

And they are going to build a 600 million dollar stadium so that Yankee fans can see their team every 6 years?
The only other reason to build that stadium that I can think of is so that Red Sox fans can see their team every 6 years.
Marlins fans? They are a nearly extinct but not protected species.

Not to nitpick, but...
I’d be willing to bet the Cubs at Astros series in Milwaukee had a higher percentage. Considering Cubs fans have at times outnumbered Brewers fans, playing there against Houston may as well have been Wrigley.
Marlins Stadium: When It's Raining, The Roof Will Happen!
90%?
You believe that out t of 35,000+ fans, only 3,500 were Marlins fans??
So fewer Marlins fans came to see the Yankees on a Friday night than any game? And not just fewer, but half as many fans as our worst-attended game of the season.
Don’t you think you’re exaggerating?
The lost stadium
As I am from Miami and have been to Marlin games I know where the lost stadium is. As it is on the border between Dade and Broward the thought was lets give the folks up north the chance to see the FLORIDA Marlins. Well now we know the folks up north don’t seem to care and the new stadium is being built where it should have been in the first place! And the name of the team should be changed to reflect this move. The Miami Marlins would have better reflected the true fans of this team and built a better representation of the true spirit of Miami. I’m not holding my breath on this but a guy can dream!
The name was a Huizenga thing.
He thought that just naming the team by its state rather than city would magically transform people hundreds of miles upstate into Marlins fans. “I live in Apopka, but the team is named for Florida, and darned if Apopka ain’t a part of Florida, too. I guess I’m a Marlins fan!”
He did the same thing with the Florida Panthers, even though Florida already had the Tampa Bay Lightning at the time.
Unless you live in a small state and are the only team there, like the Utah Jazz, naming a team after a state is a stupid commercial ploy that disrespects the actual hometown fans.
