The Marlins Mermaids at least are having a great year.

Don't know if anyone has noticed but each year the Mermaids keep getting more beautiful and more professional. They clearly have been getting some rigorous professional training. It takes a lot of hard work and practice  to coordinate all those steps.

And they are basically volunteers. I'm sure they get paid next to nothing. I believe they pick up a little something for outside appearances.

They are also true fans. I've had a chance to talk to a few of them over the years and they truly love this team. They also will talk about how disgusting it is for the Marlins Mermaids to have to perform in a stadium full of Mets fans.

So while I really applaud the Miami Herald for having the guts to publicize the horrendous lack of fan support, I part company with them on the Mermaids. They're the greatest and they deserve some fan support also.
