LandShark Stadium it is
Apparently the Marlins had to leave town so all the swells could announce the name change to the stadium.
The Miami Dolphins are renaming their home Landshark Stadium as part of a partnership with singer Jimmy Buffett.
---
Buffett and new Dolphins owner Stephen Ross are friends. They plan to unveil a new logo for the stadium at a private event Friday, where Buffett will perform a song inspired by the Dolphins.
If you weren't invited to the event, and I am guessing you weren't, and want to see the logo, even before it is unveiled, no problem, Sarah Talalay has it covered.
There is a reason she is considered, at least at FishStripes, the best sports business reporter in the game today.
While there is a warm spot in my heart for Jimmy Buffett, I'm breaking into a Billy Joel song (paraphrasing): It's still JRS to me.

ridiculous
this is the 5th name change. Landshark? they should have just kept it as Joe Robbie Stadium.
the really strange part
according to PFT, it’s only a one year deal and doesn’t include the Super Bowl. How much could it cost to get your name on a stadium for a year and not for the biggest event there? Twenty bucks?
Marlins Stadium: When It's Raining, The Roof Will Happen!
It's pretty interesting.
It’s like a new system of tiered stadium sponsorships: the one-year quickie and the long-term deal. Maybe they have the right to renew or something. Either way, it’s a cooler name than some dumb bank or something.
On the road again picks
I can’t believe I watched the whole game yesterday and forgot to put my picks in….Longest Cinco de Mayo hangover ever…..

Maybin hits a HR, Nolasco get the W (and the Fish don’t blow a 12-3 lead to lose 18-17)
Marlins call up Chris Coughlan, place Anibal on DL.
To quote Arte Johnson, verrry interesting.
Coughlan was crushing the ball in New Orleans, so a call-up was due:
Coghlan was hitting .344 (33 for 96) with nine doubles, a triple, three homers and 22 RBI in 25 games for the Zephyrs. He also walked two more times than he struck out (10) and can boast a .418 on-base percentage and .550 average (11 for 20) with runners in scoring position.
As the article suggest and you probably guessed, Anibal’s replacement will be coming from the bullpen. There are not really any starters they could’ve called up. Aaron Thompson and Sean West aren’t quite ready. Graham Taylor clearly wasn’t ready either. VandenHurk’s still rehabbing. Ryan Tucker had been on the AAA DL, but really isn’t starter caliber anyway.
That basically leaves former starters Dan Meyer or Burke Badenhop. My guess is Badenhop gets the first shot; having been used in long(ish) relief already, he’d need less stretching out than Meyer. I guess Penn is the dark horse, but I’m going to pretend that will never happen. (Although if the starter is indeed coming from the bullpen, why didn’t they call up another reliever to fill that spot?)
I’d say the more interesting thing is that Coughlan can play either 2nd or 3rd base. So who’s he coming to replace? Is he bumping Bonifacio back to 2nd, his natural position? Is he bumping Bonifacio to the bench? Is either one of them bumping Uggla to the bench?
I have to admit, for as much as I love Uggla, I wouldn’t mind a less-streaky hitter at 2nd even if he’s not going to smack 30 HRs a year.
if
If Uggla was hitting better I’d assume that meant a trade was imminent, but what’s the worth of an Uggla at this point in the season? Can we get an 4th or 5th starter to finish the year for us? And besides, wouldn’t you trade him first before replacing him?
Anyway, seems like a strange move.
You know....
if you would have written that has a fan post, I could have promoted it instead on having to write the thing myself for the front page.
