Marlins New Stadium Names
Since I was too lazy to google the Marlins today and see what others wrote about them, and Craig was too busy to spoon feed me, I wrote an article over on Bleacher Report with some naming write/sponsor ideas for the new stadium in light of Land Shark Stadium. It's not exactly informative, but I ran over some of the top possibilities in my mind... Take a look if you want, if not.. well... at least you read this...

Great stuff.
Really takes into account all the broader issues that often go unaccounted for (by, say, me).
I wonder if there’s a complicating factor for Bacardi, in that there are all kinds of restrictions that are technically voluntary, but they’re done in conjunction with Congress and MADD and people like that, so if you don’t follow them, you get called out by a lot of important people and set up for hearings. What’s more, they’re complicated, and when it comes to public events, often contradictory, since they’re categorized rather specifically and big events often cross a number of them. I would envision a number of problems if there were a game on Fox, as network advertising restrictions are higher. And more generally, since really the rule first and foremost is not to market to kids, I can imagine the problems for any kind of kids giveaways, family nights, “meet Billy the Marlin” promotions, etc. It may be the case that stadium rights for a liquor company yield significantly less value than for other industries. Or perhaps the case that they’d have to use a specific product line, like Bacardi Breezer Ballpark, something with a specifically lower alcohol content. I’m sure the relevant people for both parties are going through all the regulations.
Marlins Stadium: When It's Raining, The Roof Will Happen!
this was awesome
i hope one of the cruise lines end up sponsoring the stadium…imagine this: all you can eat buffet is included in the ticket price…

Thoughts
Good list. Just to comment on them
- Imagine playing the NLCS in the NCLS.
- Red Stripe advertise a lot down here. Maybe they could paint a big red stripe on the roof. Jamaican appreciation night should be a hazy good time.
- Bacardi has Cuban roots. They fled to PR after Castro took over. It’s privately owned and most of the family is here in Miami I believe. I like the sound of the Bacardi Orange Bowl.
- Carnival is my front runner. They don’t have the PAC naming rights anymore, so might be willing to put out. I love the idea of the smokestack in the outfield with the horn going off after every home run. As long as there’s no formal night I’m good.
- Please no. Pretty please with pickles on top.
- I still think Carnival is the front runner but Royal would be a good fit. What would the name be though? Royal Caribbean Field? Meh.
Considering the economic environment I won’t be surprised if nobody takes up the offer. In that case I propose Satchel Paige Field.
Thanks for reading and the feedback...
I’m going to have to post my articles on here more often, i normally don’t get that many reads! haha
Excellent article.
Thanks for sharing it with us.
Whatever happened to Ryder? The University of Miami’s on-campus arena was originally going to be called the Ryder Center (they announced it years before ground was ever broken), but then they dropped out.
Maybe Ryder would be interested in a pro venture? Amidst the recession, I’d think the moving companies are making out okay.
didn't think about that one...
Didn’t know about the Ryder/UM connection. The idea came to me at work and I just ran with it before I got caught… I didn’t think Ryder was that big down here, I see Bekin’s trucks all the time…
The next article is going to be a humor column on the least likely sponsors…
Ryder
Ryder was started and still has their headquarters. They just built a new office out in Doral.
Here’s a list of the South Florida based Fortune 1000 companies and some notable state brands.
Publix – 105 (F1000 rank) – Based in Lakeland. I don’t see them needing it
Autonation – 138 – part of the Huizenga group. Enough said.
FPL – 168 – Could see a tie in with the stadium being LEED certified. They’re nationwide and probably could use the name recognition. Solar Panels on the roof, windmills in the outfield, Blackout night…
World Fuel Services – 188 – Who?
Lennar – 256 – Not that they have any money left after the housing bust.
Ryder – 371 – see above
Republic Services – 647 – another Huizenga company.
Burger King Holdings – 829 – Already mentioned
Image the sponsorship opportunity
FPL pays the city of Miami, doesn’t change the name of the team to Miami Marlins, and they become the Florida Power & Light Marlins… or just the Florida Power & Lights. The first MLB team to allow a sponsor on their jerseys/names… haha
The more I think about it, the more I like the Bacardi Limon or Bacardi O Bowl. I’d like to see BK be involved but the FPL and Ryder ideas definitely could be players…
No thanks...
I don’t want to hear years and years of arguing about whether Booze Stadium is apporpriate for a child-friendly atmosphere.
I will say that the Florida Power isn’t bad at all. A little Arena Football League-y, but not bad. When the day of corporate team names arrives, I wouldn’t mind our team having that one.
