Renyel Pinto placed on 15-day DL
The Marlins placed Renyel Pinto on the 15-day DL.
Marlins left-handed reliever Renyel Pinto has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with left elbow inflammation, retroactive to May 23. Taking Pinto's place on the roster is right-hander Cristhian Martinez, who was recalled from Double-A Jacksonville. The move leaves Dan Meyer as the only lefty in the pen which on paper could be problematic since the next opponent is the Phillies. However, with the way Pinto was pitching recently, Martinez couldn't do worse.

ODC Moves
Besides the above, RHP Mike Wood was released. And on a rainy Memorial Day, what better way to pass the time than with some Mike Wood Career Trivia…
The nice thing about Mike Wood Career Trivia is that the man was a homerun-allowing machine. 54 HRs in 115 games. In fact, in 5 of those 115 games, he gave up three homers. The first, a start against Texas while with the Royals, saw two off the bat of David Dellucci. Ten days later, he took the mound against Detroit and gave up three again, this time with two coming off the bat of Craig Monroe. Ten days, 6 HRs to only three batters. The third 3-HR game would come a few years later against the Cards, but at least it was that classic 00s Murderer’s Row of Pujols, Rolen and Edmonds.
But perhaps his greatest claim to fame was doing his part to make a superstar, as he was traded from Oakland to KC as part of the three-way deal that sent Carlos Beltran to Houston, thrusting the then-most-underrated-player-in-baseball to the national spotlight.
Unfortunately, presuming that being released from the minors means he won’t again throw a major league pitch, he goes out in the worst way possible. His last major league pitch: bottom of the 9th, tie game, 2 outs… home run.

Pinto might've been a lefty
but he was somehow worse against LHB. We’ll still miss him, because he’s been a nice workhorse before being worn down. The Marlins might have a lot of live arms in the minors, but unfortunately almost all the intriguing ones are injured and/or in the lower levels. Until they’re ready, folks like Pinto are valuable to us.
