Where are you Jose Ceda?

Has anyone heard anything related to where Jose Ceda disappeared to?  Back in mid February he was shutdown "for a few days" due to some shoulder soreness.  Now three months later, not word one about his progress.  He's listed on AA-affiliate Jacksonville's roster, designated on the 7-day DL list.

There was talk that the kid was on the fast track to becoming the Marlins closer and now he's floating around in limbo and no one seems interested in his whereabouts.  Jose Ceda, where are you?

“Don’t expect anything in ’09 from him.”

I asked Will Carroll to look into it… probably not high on his priorities, but maybe he’ll come up with something.

Thanks Joe

I appreciate you looking into this. I agree it’s not a high priority thing. I’m more interested in how a top 20 MLB.com prospect simply vanishes. Based on the hush surrounding his whereabouts, I thought maybe the Department of Homeland Security swooped him up and shipped him off to Gitmo without anyone noticing. However, based on Jose’s size, they probably needed a tractor trailer to transport him there.

Ugh, Travis Bowyer v.2

Do they not check these guys out before trading for them?

It was also reported that he came into camp quite out of shape, struggling through basic drills.

Yes, I have a prospect fetish. That's why I'm a Marlins fan.

Hey, trading Gregg away was a win, period.

Actually getting anyone back for him was just gravy.

Thanks for the Ceda update

Gentlemen, thanks for the update. For me, I’m not so much interested in how he was coming along as much as I’m facinated with how a top prospect simply disappears off the radar without a single update in 3 months. It appears that rather than the Marlins hiding his situation or condition, this may be a case of no one bothering to ask.

If it were a conditioning issue (a logical conclusion based on his offensive lineman physique), then I think we’d hear about him floating around in extended spring training. So I’m starting to believe the only explanation can be that he has a serious shoulder problem. Some of the scouting reports I’ve read sited his unorthodox delivery potentially creating an arm or shoulder issue down the road. This would explain why the Padres and Cubs seemed motivated to move him. Maybe the Marlins are dealing with buyers remorse and are just hoping no one asks about Ceda so they don’t need to admit they messed up.

Gregg for nothing...

… still sounds like a push to me.

For example..

look at Matt Bush, the first pick of the 2004 draft. He was the #6 prospect in 2005. He retired in 2007 and didn’t go higher than A+. Now I think that getting rid of Gregg for this guy is going to be okay. HE is just having some trouble.
