Florida Marlins Fans

[Edit by craig]

I had written probably the longest article that FishStripes has ever seen and I deleted it.  The main thrust of it was I am getting sick and tired of people telling us how we are bad fans.  When we read the articles about the Marlins online or in print and they put down the fans, it is akin to a preacher turning around to the choir and lambasting them because others aren't in the congregation.  I've got news for the authors of the "Marlins fans suck" articles -- we are the only ones reading them.  You need a different outreach program.

I will leave it at that.

Why did you delete your article, Mr. Craig????

How do I know the Marlins have lousy fans? Because I’ve been at the stadium and it is almost always nearly empty.

The Marlins have been last that’s last I mean last in attendance in the major leagues.

And you think Marlins fans are great? Give me a break. That is pathetic.

How many games have you attended Oh great thread leader?

If you are unwilling or unable to attend any games what the hell are you doing leading this thread?

If you don’t come to the stadium and support the team, you are no fan at all. Everybody who is too lazy to attend any games should just shut up.

but then who would you preach to?

It’s obvious from the number of times you’ve chosen to call everyone here non-fans that this isn’t actually about your feelings vis-a-vis fans and attendance. If it were, there wouldn’t be a need to post it over and over; we all acknowledged your opinion the first time, which should sate the desire to express them.

No, the repeated, unprovoked posting suggests you’re really only concerned with your own superiority. I understand that it may have been frustrating to have your first few posts responded to negatively, either just by myself (on disrupting pitchers and Bonifacio) or the greater community (on trading Dan Uggla for middle relief). To me, that dialogue is itself the point of a site like this, rather than who “wins” them. After all, as I thought all of us understood, at the end of the day, we’re all Marlins fans and all have the same goal in mind, even if we have different ideas of how to get there. But, getting back to the point, I think it’s pretty obvious that your activity here for the last two or three weeks has almost exclusively been posts to belittle the rest of us. It would seem you grew frustrated with actually discussing the team and decided to put all your eggs in the one basket in which you have unquestioned superiority: attendance. And that’s why: not because you want to engage in dialogue on it, but because you’ve “won” before it even starts.

I suppose technically that’s just fine. The site is what you make it. I just think you’re missing out on that same thing you pretend to be talking about: the Marlins community.

show me the rule where it says you have to attend the games to be a fan

just because you go to all the games and choose to spend your money that way, doesn’t make anybody who doesn’t follow your trend any less of a fan.
I bet when you see all those empty seats it really upset’s you. “Why can’t these ‘fans’ be more like me?”

It’s time to get off your high horse and accept reality. Look around the league, there are plenty of stadiums full of empty seats. And seriously…unless your intention is to simply stir up controversy, don’t insult the only people who will be on this page, Marlins Fans…ESPECIALLY the person who runs the page. Also, stop separating yourself from the rest of us just because you attend every game. Go start your own blog (www.blogspot.com is a place to start) and you can do all the bitching you want, but when you do it here all it seems like is that you want attention and in some sick way to be commended for going to the games. You are as transparent as the windshield of my car.

well...

If I am not mistaken, Craig doesn’t live in Florida…

anyways, I go to games. I’ve been to 3 so far this season. I plan on going to many more. I went to only 2 last season but the season before that I went to probably over 20. There are many different reasons for why people do not go to games. many of the reasons are valid and many are not. some of the reasons I believe are valid deal with the weather. sunday day games are most of the times painfully hot. and during the summer it pretty much always looks like its going to rain during the afternoon. not that many people want to drive to stadium, pay $10 for parking, sit in their seats for half an hour and then have to leave because it starts to pour. We have fans. Our fans are evident by the t.v. and radio ratings that we get. we have yet to have a good homestand. first three games of the season was against the Nationals. No one wants to see them. I dont know if you went to any of the Mets games but I went to sunday’s game and there was a good amount of people there and the majority were Marlins fans. being in the stands for that game was probably one of the most exciting regular season games I’ve been to. the fans were really getting into the game and you could feel the frustation around everyone when Johnson lost his no-hit bid in the 6th. when the last out was achieved everyone was cheering and laughing at the Mets fans that were walking out of the stadium. We have good fans. We have fans that are as fanatic as a die hard Yankee or Red Sox fans. Bad fans are not the ones that do not go to games. Bad fans are people who put down the rest of the fans and the team for situations that are out of their control.

the new stadium is coming. you will see how the so called “cockraoch” fanbase of the Marlins are going to come out in full force and stay in full force.

just to clarify

by “good homestand” I meant the teams we face, not the record. yeah we had the Mets, but the opening series was against the nationals…

Fish Fans

The posters on this site are obviously hard core. It takes a lot to get 30,000 people away from their TV to an outdoor football park, especially when it might rain.

The Marlins don’t have the following of the Yankees, Mets, Cubs and Red Sox and that is a fact, but give them 50 years and see what happens.
