Miami Herald on Nelson and Rhodes
http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/baseball/florida-marlins/story/998528.html
<Pinto was a big reason the Marlins collapsed down the stretch last season, when the bullpen couldn't hold leads, and he ended the year on the bench. Before he was benched in September, Pinto had a stretch of seven games in August in which his ERA was 25.07 and opponents were hitting .435 against him.
One National League scout who saw Pinto pitch during the opening week said, ``He looks terrible out there. He gets behind in the count on every batter, and his mechanics are horrible.''
MISSING RHODES
The worst part of this equation is the Marlins had Rhodes -- who is arguably the best situational left-hander in baseball -- and failed to re-sign him.
Rhodes, who came to the Marlins in a July 31 trade last season, gave up just one run in 25 appearances with the Marlins and averaged more than a strikeout per inning. More importantly, he was worth his weight in gold in late-inning situations against the Phillies, who are loaded with left-handers -- including Ryan Howard and Chase Utley -- and against the Mets and Carlos Delgado.
Howard, Utley and Delgado went a combined 0 for 12 with four strikeouts in late-inning at-bats against Rhodes last season. Rhodes is now with the Reds and has made three appearances this season. He has a 0.00 ERA, and has yet to give up a hit or a walk.>
Any half way intelligent fan that actually watched the games, could have told you the above. The problem of course is that almost nobody watches the games. People just can't resist spotting off nonsense based on ignorance. But hey that's life and sports people just love to babble.

I assume that's a shot at...
…oh, everyone here.
You’re right, nobody here watches the games. In the game threads, we’re all actually just guessing what’s happening. Some people play Strat-o-matic, some throw darts, some actually do divine happenings from fish guts… but actually watch the games? No way, not us.
You’re the only true fans that Marlins have ever had and the only one who knows anything about baseball. We may as well just shut down FishStripes now that we’ve been exposed as non-fans. Please let us know when your site starts up so that we can be blessed with your knowledge on a regular basis.

seriously
This dude needs to get off his high horse.

We really need middle-relief help.
We should trade Hanley Ramirez while his value is high. We could probably get at least a couple of relievers, and maybe one of them would even be a lefy.
You are kidding right
Hanley is a francise player like no other. Unless he starts acting up like Cutler he isnt getting traded. Dan Meyer looks good against lefties. Does anyone else notice that the marlins have a bunch of guys from the Oakland A’s….a la the best selling book Moneyball.

It is not realistic to think that
the Fish were going to make that kind of financial commitment ($2 million per over two years) for a situational lefty. Nor should they have, given their projected payroll. Rhodes is no spring chicken, he’s not that far removed from major arm surgery, and bullpen arms are notoriously inconsistent from year-to-year. Who knows how effective a 40-year-old Rhodes will be by the end of the year, much less next year. I’m not saying it cannot happen, but it is a big financial risk for the low-payroll Marlins to be taking.
Yes, I have a prospect fetish. That's why I'm a Marlins fan.
Yes. Arthur Rhodes pitched thirteen and one-third very good innings for us last year. This fact is clearly much more important than his distinctly average career statistics — there’s no way thirteen and a third whole innings could be a fluke. That’s why I’m projecting Josh Johnson to finish 2009 with a 0.57 ERA — he’s already accomplished it for over fifteen innings.
Yes, those Marlins certainly made a mistake not investing ten percent of their entire payroll in a 40-year-old middle reliever who can’t get right-handed hitters out. Damn you, Marlins!
Trade Hanley Ramirez?
The Marlins have made some pretty stupid moves, Fishcrazy. But I don’t think they would trade Hanley. He has done so much for them! Plus, I don’t think they have a shortstop behind him that could do a job like he can! He is amazing! How could you think that?
Oh, and what does he mean nobody watches the games? I do, most of the time.
Dolphins. They think they're so cute. Oh, look at me, I'm a flippy little dolphin, let me flip for you.

Thanks. I’m sort of new here. I didn’t really understand.
