Flo Rida causes the blackout?

If you were wondering why the Marlins are going to start Saturday's game at 6:10 p.m. instead of the usual 7:10 p.m., look no further than Flo Rida.

Because the game is starting at 6:10 p.m. to accommodate a postgame concert, the start time “falls inside Fox’s exclusive Saturday window” between 4 and 7 p.m. Efforts to rectify the situation with the Marlins were unsuccessful, according to the report.

If you have a problem with this, and personally, I do, you can call Flo Rida at the following number.

Flo Rida is all set to play Super Saturday at the Marlins game, but if you want to talk to him before the concert, just give him a jingle.

His cellphone number is 305-528-2786.

We repeat: 305-528-2786.

I normally am not a fan of the TMZ style of reporting, but hey, my favorite team is getting blacked out.

Do with it what you will.

I'm confused...

the game isn’t blacked out, right? It’s just an hour earlier? What does this have to do with Flo Rida and/or Pit Bull? The Marlins schedule the concerts; it’s not like the performers demanded the team move the game up an hour, is it?

Sorry if this was humor that I missed.

The game is blacked out

It won’t be shown on TV because the Marlins made the game an hour earlier to accommodate a bigger than normal concert. With these acts I’m sure they spent quite a bit and the concert will go longer than it normally does too.

They are anticipating that the lineup will bring a larger crowd than the normal super saturday acts, many of whom have problem never watched a marlins game before. I guess in some regards they are trying to appease them too.

Regardless, by starting at 6 it infringes on the rights of Fox, who apparently rejected the Marlins’ efforts to be allowed to broadcast anyway. I’m not sure who they are showing during their exclusive Fox only baseball time, and it seems like it infringes upon fair competition in my mind, but Fox is being a bully and saying no to FSN (also strange since its fox sports net), and saying it wants the time slot, even an hour featuring the marlins, all to itself.

question

is the entire game going to be blacked out? in the marlins schedule it says this for saturday’s game “Broadcast joined in progress at 7:05” but it doesnt mention FSN or Sun Sports, it only mentioned mlb.tv. so will FSN start it from 7:05 or just not show it at all?

Fox

Fox’s agreement with MLB is that they have the sole rights to air any game that starts before 7:00 EST time on Saturdays. That is why if you have the MLB Package on Direct TV you will never get any Saturday day games on it. That is also why most night games on Saturday start at 7:10 EST. ESPN use to have the same deal for Wednesday’s and Sunday but they canceled it when MLB ask them to. I think now ESPN gets first choice of what game they want to show on Sunday.

Concert?

I would like a ballpark figure of how many fans of pieces of Zero-Talent garbage such as Flo Rida and Pitbull are going to sit through a 9 inning baseball game in order to listen to an hour or so of this crap after the game?

Ballpark figure: 10,000

average 2008 Friday home attendance: 16,928
average 2008 Saturday home attendance: 25,294
average 2008 Sunday home attendance: 14,610

so Saturday averaged 9,525 more than Friday/Sunday. And if you take out Sunday’s “Home Closer” that number jumps up to 10,142.

Attendance

Friday’s night game 24,070
Tonights game 39,412

Those Zero-talent bands are pulling in about 15,000 more fans.

yawn

It was actually a pretty good show. Judging from the number of beautiful women in the stands, I’d venture to say that a lot of them were willing to sit through a 9 inning game. Even a stinker like that one.
