Ricky Nolasco, et al, no hit the Tigers

Ricky Nolasco, Dan Meyer and Leo Nunez combined for a no-hitter.

Ricky Nolasco, Dan Meyer and Leo Nunez combined to no-hit the Detroit Tigers Sunday in Lakeland, facing one over the minimum in a 2-0 Marlins victory.

Nolasco pitched the first seven innings with two runners reaching. Ramon Santiago walked to lead off the game and Jeff Larish was hit by a pitch in the second inning. Both were erased on a double play.

Nolasco struck out eight, including the side in his final inning.

Meyer pitched a perfect eighth inning, striking out two, and Nunez pitched the ninth, yielding a two-out walk.

Someone asked the longtime scouts who have been the game for about 40-years if they have ever seen a no-hitter in spring training, none could recall ever have seeing such.

I tried to lookup spring training statistics, but no one I could find keeps them.  And for good reason, they don't really matter.

However, a no-hitter is a no-hitter no matter when you do it and it is something to celebrate.
