Cameron Maybin to have shoulder surgery

Cameron Maybin will go under the scope on Monday.

Cameron Maybin will undergo surgery Monday to repair a partially-torn labrum in his left shoulder. Maybin, slated to be the starting center fielder in 2010, is expected to be ready for spring training.

The shoulder bothered Maybin in the second half of the season but not bad enough to keep him out of the lineup.

Doesn't sound like it is a big deal.  I guess all it means is that he will spend the offseason rehabbing instead of working on baseball activities.  Depending on how he recovers, he may be a little rusty to start the season, but no big deal.

Pujols

I believe this is the same injury that was nagging Pujols. Hopefully it will hamper Maybin in the same manner that it did Albert.

Hope he's ok.

If Coghlan goes back to 2nd, we should put Maybin in left, Cody in center, and Carroll in right. Cody is a much better CF than Maybin.

I agree,

and would add the argument that Maybin in LF is better than Cody in LF as well, just due to his ability to cover ground. Hence that OF being the best fielding OF we can possibly put together given those 4 OF’s.

i like maybin's range better in CF

plus UZR wasn’t real high on cody in the OF for this year for some reason, which is weird since he put up great numbers in ’08. Maybin is the CF of the future, so you might as well get him as comfortable as possible at that position.
