Zack Greinke Wins AL Cy Young
Zack Greinke of the Kansas City Royals has won the Cy Young award in the American League, beating Felix Hernandez by 54 votes.
Zack Greinke won the American League Cy Young Award on Tuesday, beating out Felix Hernandez after a spectacular season short on wins but long on domination.
Greinke went 16-8 with a 2.16 ERA for the Kansas City Royals. Hernandez went 19-5 with a 2.49 ERA for the Seattle Mariners.
Greinke received 25 first-place votes and three seconds for 134 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Hernandez drew two firsts, 23 seconds and one third for 80 points.
This news will hold us over nicely until the NL Cy Young winner is announced Thursday.
Let the mathematically infallible arguments on the wrongness of Greinke winning the Cy Young commence! Or, you know, you could just say congrats and leave it at that. You pick.

I feel like this was a swipe at me.
The stats are more than happy with Zack Greinke. And, according to this article, he’s more than happy with the stats.

I read a stat recently that said feelings are not an indicator of reality 77.89% of the time.
Or something like that.
That wasn’t a swipe at you. If it was a swipe at all, it would have been at like half of FishStripes, and I’m not that dumb. I guess the sarcasm doesn’t always transfer well in print. The point was there really isn’t much to discuss, seeing as he was the clear winner. I was actually bummed that the announcement wouldn’t produce a lively discussion.
Breathe. I heart stats. I heart stats geeks. (WHOA! Not that you’re a geek… gonna stop now.)
I like being a geek. I accept your stat-geek heartness with the utmost respect.

Yeah -- even the Mariners fans are saying Greinke deserved it.
The guy was clearly the best pitcher.
(Now, the NL Cy Young is a bit of an argument… I think Lincecum takes it, though, because a) the two other plausible candidates play for the same team, and b) who doesn’t like Lincecum? People really like that guy!)
He's currently two-thirds man, one-third amazing. Which, let's face it, is still a pretty good ratio.
