Weekend Chum Bucket
It's the weekend and that can only mean one thing....it's time for the Weekend Chum Bucket. And you thought it would never get here.
In sports, the Heat are at home on Saturday. The Panthers are also in action on Saturday but are on the road. Also there are college basketball games out the whazoo. And, oh yeah, there is a football game scheduled for Sunday.
But if for some reason commenting on the action on the field or the commercials in between the action isn't your kinda thing. Then pick a topic and run with it, who knows someone may join in.
Most importantly, Have a Great Weekend!

Marlins Mermaids
Last night they had a “final audition” last night at the Hard Rock. I am looking forward to this year…
ever declining prices of FA's...
as it sits right now, if uggla wins arbitration, the marlins payroll is going to sit at $33 million. I remember that much earlier in the offseason that the FO had made comments about having a payroll around 35-40 million. Does anybody else see them maybe setting up for a run at one of these FA’s ( ie. Dunn, Abreau, G Anderson, Junior)???
Personally given the fact that we have a stockpile of unproven corner infielders (with the exception of Cantu) why not pursue Dunn at 6-7 million for a one year contract and stick him at 1B? He could fill in at LF and some at RF if needed but could take this lineup from a slighlty above average offesne to one that looks downright scary. Im not sure about you guys but I would take his high K rate for his wicked OBP and insane left handed power numbers. You put him at 1B to almost hide his glove because Ross?Maybin/Hermida is much better defensivly than DUnn somewhere sandwitched out there.
Now, If Gaby has a great Spring along with McDallas then it gives you the opportunity to maybe even trade McDallas or even Cantu – because I would make that Jonatthen Sanchez trade in a heart beat.
Now I know this goes away form the whole defense and bat contact first but this is a move that could push them over the top. I know we still lack a legit #2 cathcer, SP depth and a proven closer…but Loria has proven to us in the past that when he feels the Marlins can win RIGHT NOW that he does open up his wallet. Remember Pudge, and l Lieter, and Carlos Delgado?
Roll this out on opening day….scary…
CF – Cameron Maybin
C – John Baker
SS – Hanley Ramirez
1B – Adam Dunn
3B – Jorge Cantu
2B – Dan Uggla
RF – Cody Ross
LF – Jeremy Hermida
SP – Ricky Nolasco
Interesting....
but with the question marks about the starters, I don’t know that the FO would be willing to do this at the start of season.
It is an interesting idea, but I think the club really wants to see if Gaby is ready.
However, my track record at guessing what the FO will do is pretty poor.
Adam Dunn
is exactly the kind of player the Marlins don’t need. They should have kept Jacobs if that is what they wanted.
Sanchez swings a nice bat and will be a huge upgrade on defense. Let’s give him a chance. As Beinfast says,we have plenty of offense. Time the work on defense.
Marlins moves
The only major money they should spend should be for an Arthur Rhodes type: a lights out lefty reliever specialist for all of those left handed power hitters in our division. In fact I was hopping they would make a bid to keep Arthur who would have been a lot more valuable than anyone else they let go.
If they were to go after anyone, perhaps it should be Ken Griffey jr. He certainly has a lot of class.

But the Marlins have so much going on in the minors, I really think their best move is to let some of the young guys have a chance.
The Cardinals are having success with this approach. Instead of throwing away money on overpriced journeymen, lets promote guys from within. In the meantime, lets keep trading away the Mike Jacobs and Scot Olsens to keep stocking those minors. That is by far the Marlins best shot at another series ring IMO.
Nice article about the Cardinals and their minor leagues:
