Uggla's future
What's up, Fish fans? Was just checking out your site as I do from time to time and thought I'd invite you to weigh in on my latest post at our Marlins blog on Sun Sentinel.com.
Jeff Borris, Uggla's agent, had some interesting things to say about his client and his future with the Marlins after they exchanged arbitration figures today.
Here's the link: http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_baseball_marlins/2009/01/ugglas-agent-speaks-about-the-future.html
Feel free to stop by in the future as we all try to make sense of baseball's most inscrutable franchise.

Thanks for the post....
the article confirms my fears.
Please, come by FishStripes anytime. You are always welcome here and the insight is very much appreciated.
Cool...
Mike Berardino posts here, too. I’m a big fan…we’re fortunate to have you as a baseball writer.
Thanks for the welcome
Much appreciated. I know my cohort Juan Rodriguez stops by your site often as well. We’ll do our best to start linking to your site on our blog if you’ll do the same. Take care.
Hey guy's
Cardinal fan here. I’m just curious to know if you guys think the Marlins could trade Uggla to the Cardinals for prospects/Kennedy, etc. Thanks!
Who knows?
He could end up anywhere, but I don’t think it will be until later in the season. Slappy Bonifacio isn’t ready yet (as if he’ll ever be), so I’d imagine they’d keep Uggla around for now.
I would’ve said that it’s unlikely they’d trade him to another NL team, but then again, we dumped Olsen and Willingham to a division rival.
I've got a trade that makes sense for both teams
As a Giants season-ticket holder, I know the Giants would be overpaying but. . .
Jonathan Sanchez, Fred Lewis, Jack Taschner, Eugenio Velez and a decent minor league prospect to the Marlins for Uggla and Hermidia.
Why?
Marlins are dreadful defensively in the infield (except for Hanley). This trade allows them to place Bonafacio at 2b and be strong up the middle; improves their bullpen; allows them to trim a soon-to-be-costly player (Uggla, which they hinted at all winter) and add speed and a starting outfielder —plus a potential #2 or #3 starter in Sanchez.
For the Giants: we have to add more pop.
Thoughts?
Don't believe everything you think.
I dunno...
Fred Lewis is just about the same as Hermida. Velez appears to be about the same as Bonifacio. Sanchez could be decent, and I really like his 1:1 K-to-IP ratio, but I don’t know if his ceiling is any higher than Olsen’s was. (I do like Taschner, though.) I guess the point is, I don’t know if Beinfest is looking for a lot of parts, or if the eventual trade will even involve someone off a team’s major-league roster. Beinfest goes after top prospects, and he’ll be happy getting one or two top prospects back instead of another major-leaguer.
