Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Phillies (8/5)
Florida @ Philadelphia
The Marlins are in the town that booed Santa Claus, lucky us, to begin a six-game road trip against the Phillies and the Mets. Contrary to what some have written, the Marlins don't have win both of series to stay in the hunt for the division title. The Fish will face the two six more times each. Of course, it would make life much easier if we go 6-0 on the trip, but it is not the end of world if we don't.
Johnson will face the Phillies for the second time this season. In his first start he limited the...you know, it's hard to keep my hatred for the Phillies out of my writing, nonetheless...those guys to 2 runs in 6.2 innings. Josh is giving up hits, but has always found a way to get out of it.
Moyer, who sold his sole to the Devil some years back, will take the mound for the Phillies. Every Marlins fan knows that Moyer has 10 career starts against the Fish and has won all of them. Moyer is a soft-tossing lefty. His win streak has to end one day and this would be a very good day for it to happen.
Ichthyomancy is ready to go. Best of Luck to You!

Picks for Tuesday
You can learn a lot playing Ichthyomancy—I had no idea it was so common for games to have no-hitters going into the sixth inning.
Picks for Tuesday:

No win for Moyer (if that’s not good enough for an AAB, then Marlins BP gets W)
I’m hoping that if I keep picking Moyer’s streak to end, it’ll eventually come true….

well, Moyer 2 was okay,
but the original was much better. Sequels are always a disappointment.

couldn't help but laugh...
... when I read this quote from Girardi about joba: “You’re always careful with your players. You don’t want to jeopardize their long-term health. And we’re talking about a 22-year-old kid here.”

Nothing much.....
after the game some time later the commissioners office will hear the protest. If they rule in favor to the Marlins, and they won’t, they could take the HR away and resume the game from that point.

Don't know...
the most famous one I can think of was George Brett’s pine tar home run. But surely it has happened since then

The home plate umpire disallowed the HR because of the pine tar......
The commissioners office overturned the ruling on the field and said the bat was legal.
The next time the Royals and Yankees played, they played two sort of. The first game was a resumption of the protested game picking up after the home run was added to the score.
