Jorge Cantu inspiring youngsters

Jorge Cantu did his best to inspire the Mexican Little League team.

The Mexican Little Leaguers were a victory shy of bringing home the title, but countryman Jorge Cantu is no less proud of them.

Cantu spoke to the team before Sunday's 12-3 loss to Hawaii in the championship game. He also addressed them before Thursday's international semifinal against Venezuela, a game they won 5-2.

"They're young kids and they're going to win and lose, but their performance was incredible," Cantu said. "To make it to the final is something that should be mentioned, especially in Mexico, so everybody knows how capable Mexico is in a world baseball tournament."

Cantu has a special connection to the group. His godfather, Jorge Almanza, is the president of the Matamoros Little League, which produced the team that represented Mexico in South Williamsport, Pa.

You done good, Jorge!
