Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Chum Bucket

The Marlins are traveling today to the West Coast and believe me, they could use a change of scenery.  And an off-day couldn't hurt.

But in the meantime and I'm running out time, we are left to entertain ourselves.  So this the usual Chum Bucket where all topics are fair game.  If you would like to discuss the woes of the Marlins but how they are still in running, have at it.

Or maybe you want to talk about the Olympics, that's cool.  Or maybe that great new movie you saw, that will work too.  Anything is good.

Speaking of the Olympics, Misty and Kerri play at 9:00 p.m. tonight.

As always, Have a Great Day!

Things I think the Marlins need to do to win the east:

win each of these next 3 series, preferably more than 6 of 9

Make a claim on a reliever (fuentes is bound to go on waivers)

Make a claim on a bat (Huff, trade them jacobs… get increase in every stat basically, plus a vet, pay him now, trade him in the offseason)

thoughts?

Hmm.

Not sure Baltimore would want Jacobs, as he’s a one-dimensional, non-clutch downgrade over what they already had (just cheaper).

Fuentes would cost quite a bit. Not sure what to do at this point. I really hate to say this, but is there a point where the Marlins may decide that this isn’t going to be the year, and hold onto their top prospects instead of dealing them away out of desperation?

I’m wondering if the offense’s struggles make the Manny non-trade better or worse. The “worse” is obvious, but the “better” is that even one tremendous bat couldn’t have made up for the slumping up and down the lineup. (Then again, maybe I’m just really hung up on Stanton’s potential.)

I think it makes the non-trade worse...

Think back on the last couple weeks… how many times would 1 good at bat (base hit, sacrifice fly) have completely changed an inning and thus a game…

sorry eagle

Look at peripheral stats, the regression was inevitable. They had a great season, by all accounts a lucky one but getting rid of players for Aubrey Huff or Fuentes would be illogical. Maybin is still coming. Stanton can be great if he can learn some damn plate discipline.
