Manny to the Marlins?
Late last night, Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus had an interesting rumor:
One good source told me that he had heard that the Marlins were involved, willing to give up Jeremy Hermida and Boston-area product Jeff Allison, but I couldn't confirm this. I just don't see this deal getting done.
I imagine the Red Sox would be willing to eat all of Ramirez's salary to get a player like Hermida. As Carroll said, it seems unlikely.

Manny being Manny (being Marlin)
When I first heard this I thought this would be a ridiculous trade for the Fish to be mentioned in…until you get down to the specifics.
1. Boston has said it would eat Manny’s salary for the remainder of the year – meaning the team he is traded to would be trading away talent for the service of Manny Ramirez for a few months.
2. Next year the Marlins will have a log jam in the outfield with 4 potential starters – Cody Ross, Josh Willingham, Jeremy Hermida, and Cameron Maybin. So who is the odd man out? Hammer can only play left, while Cody can play all 3 positions. The Red Sox have already shown interest in Hammer earlier in the year.
Ross, Hermida, and Hammer (correct me if I’m wrong) are all up for arbitration next year and there is no point in keeping all 3. You have Maybin waiting. Make a deal now! Personanly I would be willing to part with andrew MIller. He has shown me nothing and the Marlins seem ready and eager to get him out of the rotation. He is the odd man, much like the Hammer.
Somehting along the lines of Miller and Hammer for Manny and somebody else, a low level pitching prospect. I’m willing to part with Hammer and MIller for the service of many for a few months if it gives us that chance for another World Series title.
Then next year you throw Cody on left, Maybin in center, and Hermida in right.
You may think I’m crazy, but this would look nice come October:
1. Hanley Ramirez
2. Jeremy Hermida
3. Jorge Cantu
4. Manny Ramirez
5. Dan Uggla
6. Mike Jacobs
7. Cody Ross

Don't trade Allison
Peter Gammons thinks Jeff Allison is a lock for the all-star all-rehab team, and suddenly he’s a commodity? If he makes it to the bigs, he might be worth more than a few months of Manny. I think the Marlins need to cut down on the strikeouts. Now. Or else it won’t matter who’s in the line-up.

Sports Illustrated on the Ramirez rumor
They say Manny could go to the Phillies, the Marlins or the Dodgers. Or, he could stay with Boston. They also say the Hermida – Allison proposal from the Marlins is unconfirmed:
Baseball Prospectus had an unnamed source who mentioned that the Marlins might consider sending a package of young outfielder Jeremy Hermida and pitching prospect Jeff Allison, a Boston-area product, to the Red Sox, but that report was unconfirmed.

this interesting...
I think what it comes down to is “does management think that this team is just a piece or two away from contending for a World Series this season?” Would Manny and then possibly a reliever put us over the top? I think they could definitely make the difference as far as winning the NL East, but I’m not convinced that another powerful bat is going to solve all our problems and make us better than the teams in the Central. Sure adding Manny would make our lineup very potent (and add to our record-setting level of HRs), but he’s no improvement defensively and will only add to our strikeout level (although he does have a solid .400 OBP). I think none of us who have watched Hermida’s development would be too disappointed to see him go in a situation like this, especially considering the wealth of players we have in the outfield, but i’m just not convinced that Manny will put us over the top
