Bad news for Rick VandenHurk
Rick VandenHurk received some bad news about the Olympics. Not that he was going to be available away.
Because he opened the season on the big league club, right-hander Rick VandenHurk is ineligible to represent the Netherlands in the Olympics next month. Getting recalled from the minors would provide some consolation.
If the Marlins chose not to start left-hander Mark Hendrickson on Tuesday, VandenHurk might be the next best choice. Already on the 40-man roster and in line to pitch Tuesday for Double-A Carolina, VandenHurk missed six weeks with an ulnar never injury. Since coming back May 31, he has a 4.17 ERA with 43 hits, 48 strikeouts and 18 walks in 49 2/3 innings.
I'm not sure that the Incredible Hurk will be next one tapped while we are waiting on Anibal Sanchez to return. But really, who knows, the clock is already started on him and he has yet to lose to Atlanta in his career.
So maybe it could happen. If it does, it will interesting to see if he has regained his form.

"ulnar nerve injury"?
Boy, anytime someone combines “ulnar” with “Marlins pitcher,” I sure get nervous.
Of course, if they called it a simple forearm strain, then we’d really know he needs Tommy John surgery.
