Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: All-Star Game (7/15)

The starting pitcher for the NL is Ben Sheets.  The starting pitcher for the AL is Cliff Lee.

The festivities begin at 8:00 p.m.  The game should start around 8:20 p.m.

Ichthyomancy is slightly different in that you won't be making an attendance pick.  What you be deciding, if you choose to play, is whether the AL or NL will be victorious, the MVP of the game but take heart there will be two other players deemed point worthy other than the actual MVP.  And also, the standard AAB pick is in play.

Since I have no idea what the participation rate will be tonight, your name will be added along with your picks when they are made. Or maybe to more precise, when I get home from work or sometime there after. Once again you do not have to select a Marlin, you can if want, though it is not required.

Here is the Ichthyomancy pick table:

FishStriper League Player AAB
Orlando Rays NL H. Ramirez Longoria: HR
Hoyamarlin AL Hamilton Rivera: save
Bumppo NL Fukudome NL: 3+ HR

Best of Luck to You!

Go Hanley!  Go Danny!

Inaugural ASG picks

NL
Hanley
Longoria: HR (make up for his pitiful HRD performance)

Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; but if a thing is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.

interesting post in... the post

management is finally happy with cody ross in CF and probably won’t trade for a replacement… but Joel Sherman thinks the Rangers might be a good trade partner for a Fish Catcher…

I agree… I wouldn’t mind having Salty on our squad…

man...

it’s always amazing to see all the Hall of Famers. In no other sport are they revered as such legends.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 15, 2008 8:19 PM EDT reply actions

(clapping for hanley as he comes out)

Classless that they boo’ed the red sox so far. I know it’s a rivalry, but this is suppose to be when rivalries are put aside for a weekend…

by jrsyeagle on Jul 15, 2008 8:19 PM EDT reply actions

you know,

the way they’ve done the sound for TV, you can’t really hear the cheering. It sounds more like polite applause. Very bad job, Fox.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 15, 2008 8:24 PM EDT reply actions

also,

did i miss it, or was Stan the Man not there?

by Fishcrazy on Jul 15, 2008 8:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn't see him.

Also, that national anthem sounded terrible.

ANd how do you not show the fly over on tv?

i really like

Gary Carter’s expos hat…. i must say…

I agree with you Fishcrazy…

by jrsyeagle on Jul 15, 2008 8:27 PM EDT reply actions

just like it to be known...

I definitely got my picks in in time. game didnt start til closer to 9.
Also, in my haste to submit my picks, i forgot the league started testing for steroids…

by GMFB on Jul 15, 2008 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I could

listen to Yogi talk and watch Hanley hit all night

"This will all end in tears, I just know it."

by HadMatter on Jul 15, 2008 9:30 PM EDT reply actions

Hm.

The Marlins should just require all newly drafted, signed or traded-for players to undergo Tommy John surgery just to get it out of the way.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 15, 2008 11:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Correction Joe Buck

the National League East* is one a role here

Stadium

I’m amazed at all the coverage we’re getting. I googled the team name as I’m watching the game and there are articles in OH, NC, NY, MA, the Christian News Monitor, etc….

The city today asked to be acquited… judge rules on it in the morning

by jrsyeagle on Jul 15, 2008 10:27 PM EDT reply actions

These Miller Lite commercials are beyond awful.

I just want that annoying guy to shut up. Did they think people would find him funny?

by Fishcrazy on Jul 15, 2008 11:43 PM EDT reply actions

uh...

it was the ankle. that was it.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 15, 2008 11:57 PM EDT reply actions

Jesus

They’re killing Uggla.

by Bumppo on Jul 15, 2008 11:57 PM EDT reply actions

i can't even believe it.

winning run on 3rd and they couldn’t even get a sac fly….that’s either weak clutch hitting or terrific pitching.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 16, 2008 12:05 AM EDT up reply actions

Wow!

What a GREAT play by Tejada.

Uggla should send him a gift or something.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 16, 2008 12:04 AM EDT reply actions

And I was thinking....

He is a Rockie. So if Hurdle extends him in the All-Star game—it’s his pitcher. So Cook doesn’t come with that the other team is going to kill us problem.

by craig on Jul 16, 2008 12:26 AM EDT up reply actions

Whew...

I tell ya, after the jams the NL has worked themselves out of the last two innings, the Baseball Fates really should let them win this thing.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 16, 2008 12:24 AM EDT reply actions

Well

If nothing else, we should be able to sign Uggla cheaply. No big cities will want him if he does this under pressure.

by Bumppo on Jul 16, 2008 12:41 AM EDT reply actions

uh-oh...

kinsler coming up.

brings back bad memories of Hank Blalock and Michael Young.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 16, 2008 12:43 AM EDT reply actions

oh lord...

that should’ve been a hit

by Fishcrazy on Jul 16, 2008 1:01 AM EDT reply actions

I agree

that was a tough error

by craig on Jul 16, 2008 1:02 AM EDT up reply actions

Woo Hoo!

Danny has the record

by craig on Jul 16, 2008 1:02 AM EDT reply actions

...

10 or 11 innings = fun
12 or 13 = uh…
14 or 15 = just end it already

by Fishcrazy on Jul 16, 2008 1:12 AM EDT reply actions

i agree

i’m just sittin here like a zombie waitin for this to end.

by stlcardinalsfang on Jul 16, 2008 1:15 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm rejuvenated

Around midnight I was falling asleep but now, I’m ready to go.

by Bumppo on Jul 16, 2008 1:16 AM EDT up reply actions

well i'm an hour behind you guys

so i’m right at (what was your) sleepy time and i’m sleepy.

by stlcardinalsfang on Jul 16, 2008 1:17 AM EDT up reply actions

that webb is pretty good.

offer jacobs for him. they’ll never be able to turn it down.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 16, 2008 1:18 AM EDT reply actions

uh...

0-4 with 3 k’s and 3 errors.

somehow, i don’t think uggla will be ordering the commemorative video of this game.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 16, 2008 1:22 AM EDT reply actions

Wow

Uggla is an all star? Is he always this bad defensively?

by TyCubsfan on Jul 16, 2008 1:24 AM EDT reply actions

Nope

He is just having an awful night.

by craig on Jul 16, 2008 1:26 AM EDT up reply actions

no.

he’s only made 6 errors all year. but this is all new for him, and i think after that first error he’s gotten psyched out.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 16, 2008 1:27 AM EDT up reply actions

I

kinda feel bad for him.

by TyCubsfan on Jul 16, 2008 1:28 AM EDT reply actions

Me too.....

but take out the “kinda” part

by craig on Jul 16, 2008 1:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Let me see if I got this right....

A Met, Ex-Astro can’t hold it and a Phillie, Ex-Astro lost it.

Hmm….

by craig on Jul 16, 2008 1:39 AM EDT reply actions

Aside from the Mets, Wagner is an ex-Astro, ex-Phillie.

So the ex-Astro, ex-Phillie blew the lead, and the ex-Astro, current Phillie lost the game.

And Chase Utley played a ball off his face in the first inning.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 16, 2008 1:41 AM EDT up reply actions

So

no one said your decisions had to correct. Just go on believing what you want to believe.

by craig on Jul 16, 2008 1:44 AM EDT up reply actions

Wow,

Dan Uggla should have handed the keys to the car to Drew, but he probably would have misplayed the toss…

by TyCubsfan on Jul 16, 2008 1:49 AM EDT reply actions

Got to hand it to Cubs fans...

They’ve used their century between titles to develop a pretty keen wit.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 16, 2008 2:00 AM EDT up reply actions

give me a fucking break...

the errors weren’t a factor in the final outcome, and an entire NL All-Star team went scoreless for 7 innings. Can’t put that all on one guy

by hoyamarlin on Jul 16, 2008 2:04 AM EDT up reply actions

Yikes

a night Uggla will want to forget. Fortunately he will have many future opportunities to live it down (both as a Marlin and in future All-Star games)

by hoyamarlin on Jul 16, 2008 1:58 AM EDT reply actions

Points

I can’t update the table due to server issues, but no matter.

The winner of the game was the AL. Boooo!
No one picked the AL.

Players earning a point: Drew, Holliday and Cook.
A point goes to Fishcrazy.

AAB points: Fishcrazy and Jrsyeagle.

Recap:

Fishcrazy +2
Jrsyeagle +1

Congratulations to both of tonight’s winners! If I missed anyone or anything, please let me know.

by craig on Jul 16, 2008 3:16 AM EDT reply actions

to be fair

hoyamarlin picked the AL…bastard

by stlcardinalsfang on Jul 16, 2008 9:07 AM EDT up reply actions

As much as it stings...

its true. I picked the AL, so i merit a point.

by hoyamarlin on Jul 16, 2008 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Thanks for reminding me

how much I hate Fox’s broadcasting team. They just wouldn’t shut up.
