Partly cloudy. Winds blowing out to right field at 5-10 m.p.h. Game Time temperature: Around 75.

The Marlins are looking to continue their winning ways in Chavez Ravine tonight.

Johnson will take the hill for the Marlins for the first time in over a year.  From what I've read he will be on a strict pitch count of 100 pitches.  Meaning if they pull him during the middle of facing a batter, you will know why.  Don't read too much into his first start back since it may take a few to adjust the majors again.  Though it is nice he will making his first start in a pitcher's ballpark.

Park will start once again in place of Brad Penny and he has yet to lose a start at home.  In fact, he has a miniscule 0.62 ERA in games started at Dodger Stadium.  Given his history, that can't last.  Should he not be able to paint the corners he can be hit and hard at that.  If he is painting or has a favorable ump, it is going to take some work.  He rarely goes past 6 innings.

Welcome to the second installment of Midnight Baseball.

Ichthyomancy is ready to play all the way to the All-Star break.  Best of Luck to You!

Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; but if a thing is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.

is anyone else kinda anxious about JJ? i’m like a little kid!

by fishstick on Jul 10, 2008 1:34 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

very anxious.

but anxious in a good way, as opposed to when Hendrickson or Tucker got the ball.

it’s like before christmas as a kid. you don’t know if youre getting a rad new bike or another pair of socks and underwear from grandma.

Well,

I suspect he’ll start out as socks and underwear before rounding into shape as that rad new bike that triumphantly carries you over the snowy, perilous hill of the NL East standings.

Or did I just kill the analogy?

it works haha except you kind of said i need to wait until next christmas to get the bike! and i could use it now.

Just call him...

Captain Not-Clutch…

... Hermida would have knocked park out of the game with a base hit there

by jrsyeagle on Jul 10, 2008 11:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i'd rather just

not have to call him when we need something

I finally got an AAB

by jrsyeagle on Jul 10, 2008 11:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That's the brilliance of Hermida.

Knowing that Park is weak tonight, he didn’t want to force him out too early. Instead, he left Park in so we could bleed him slowly. That Hermida is such a smart player.

by Fishcrazy on Jul 10, 2008 11:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Now, the decision to go with Hendrickson or Joey the Fish….

by Matt Wilson on Jul 10, 2008 11:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Um...

I think we should keep Hendrickson in reserve.

Deep reserve.

I've thought that

practically every at bat I’ve watched after his first…

I wish they would use him as trade bait… let gonzo play right field… or ameza… or ross…

the Dodgers short stop can field routine ground balls…...hit ‘em to someone else.

by jrsyeagle on Jul 11, 2008 1:45 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i'm calling it...

Hanley walk off home run

how? he hits home run, crawls around bases, dodgers suddenly feel like their in eastern standard time and fall asleep

by jrsyeagle on Jul 11, 2008 1:46 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

probably because he's shakey...

but lets be serious… unless we get mariano rivera or papelbon somehow… any closer is shakey at times..

okay after that hit i’m more nervous

by jrsyeagle on Jul 11, 2008 1:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The key with Gregg is walks.....

If he doesn’t give up a walk—he normally does well.

If he starts walking batters—then the trouble starts.

(Also insert errors by the defense for walks for the same result)

Amazing!

Anyway, I’m watching the LA feed thanks to mlb.tv and after the home run Vin Scully just mutters “holy mackeral, what a player.” Then, after noting that Hanley is 14 for his last 20 at bats in Dodger stadium once again says “Holy cow, what a player!”

Right you are, sir.
