After last night's game, Taylor Tankersley was optioned to Albuquerque .
The Marlins on Tuesday night optioned left-handed reliever Taylor Tankersley to Triple-A Albuquerque.
The team has been carrying 13 pitchers, and manager Fredi Gonzalez said a position player will be brought up before Wednesday's 1:10 p.m. ET game with the Braves at Turner Field.
So much for carrying 13 pitchers until June 18.
Tank has had a pretty rough start to the season. At this point he has pitched 16 innings, allowed 18 hits, 13 runs, 4 home runs, walked 7 and has complied an ERA of 7.31.
But his early season problems aren't anything new.
A year ago, when Tankersley was struggling in the first half, he went to Albuquerque, refined his mechanics and came back strong.
Hopefully Tank will get it worked out in the minors.
Who the position player will be is a matter of speculation at the time I'm writing this. But the names mentioned most often are Jason Wood, Dallas McPherson and John Gall. All three are "older" players who can play multiple positions.
My guess is that the Marlins are looking to add, first and foremost, someone they feel will be a good pinch-hitter off the bench.
Whatever the case, the Marlins will soon have another bat on the bench.
