Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Rays at Marlins (6/26)
Tampa Bay @ Florida
The Marlins once again find themselves in sweep avoidance mode. The Fish have lost the Citrus Series, but the sweep can be avoided.
Hendrickson wasn't bad in his outing against the A's going 6.1 innings and allowing 4 runs. Sure, that isn't anything to write home about but it was an improvement. Hendrickson has made three day starts this season and has posted a 8.44 ERA in those starts. Baseball players, like most everyone else, are creatures of habit and midweek day games normally don't fit into their routines.
Garza, when he made his start earlier in the season against the Marlins, did quite well. Allowing on 1 run on 3 hits, in 7 innings. The good news is he normally has his problems pitching on the road. His away ERA for the season is 6.25.
Yes, this is a midweek day game, however, that idea you had about choosing 500 as your attendance pick in Ichthyomancy would be a really bad idea. For you see: this is Camp Day. And there should be young campers all over the place in the stadium.
This year the Marlins are hosting two Camp Days, instead of the usual one. So I don't know exactly what that will mean for the attendance figure. But back when there was only one, it meant the attendance would be in the 20,000+ range. Just letting you know.
Ichthyomancy really hates midweek day games, even if it is Camp Day. But Best of Luck to You!

Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; but if a thing is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.

what do you mean? in the game?
I’m only able to check ESPN’s GameCase every now and then because of work. I see it’s already 3-0 Rays, but what’s our ignominious feat of the day?

hm
I believe the most potent one was Hendo walking the bases loaded with 2 outs, including walking the pitcher, and then a run scoring on an infield grounder that Hanley didn’t know what to do with.
Also, having to watch the Drays feed/announcers was pretty crappy as well.

yeah,
i hadn’t realized it was a no-hitter at the time and obviously couldn’t see the defensive miscues, either.
I really hate the Rays.

Ugh.
How long can they leave Hendrickson in the rotation? It’s not even that he’s pitching poorly, it’s that he can barely get out of the 5th anymore.
Hurry back, Josh! And Anibal! And Sergio!

What an awful series.
We made the D-Rays look like the ‘27 Yankees.

Points
The attendance for the game was 17,107. The attendance point goes to HadMatter.
Players earning a point: Ramirez, Waechter and Andino. If you are wondering why Andino—it’s because he had nothing to with that mess.
A point goes to: Little Nicky.
AAB points: unsurprisingly no one’s selection was hit.
Recap:
HadMatter +1
Little Nicky +1
Congratulations to both of today’s winners! If I missed anyone or anything, please let me know.
