Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

What's the status on Cameron Maybin?

I haven't heard much about this kid since we got him, and I think he'd fit in pretty well with the guys we have right now.  We don't have a true leadoff hitter, or a true #2 hitter, so could he fill one of those roles?  Maybe a lineup of 1) Maybin 2) Cantu 3) Ramirez 4) Jacobs 5) Uggla 6) Ross 7) Willingham/Hermida/Gonzo 8) Treanor 9) Pitcher...  Or keep Hanley at leadoff and bat Maybin 2nd?  And in the outfield, playing Ross in left, Maybin in center, and Willingham/Hermida switching up with Gonzo in right?  It would get Amezega out of center and give us a trade piece in the outfield for some starting pitching after the all-star break.

So... does anybody if the kid is ready for the bigs?

IMO, no

I really feel he’d be better served staying in the minors until perhaps a September call-up. He recently went on a nice little hot streak after struggling at the plate for most of the season. It also seems he is beginning to cut back on his incredibly high K rate. I would like to give him more time to show some consistency. Bringing him up now would be a mistake, IMO, and I would be surprised if they did.

Yes, I have a prospect fetish. That's why I'm a Marlins fan.

gotcha

with that said, when he eventually does come up, whether it’s Sept. or next season, how will he fit into the batting lineup? I think he would be best as a leadoff guy, but didn’t Hanley go into a bit of a slump when we took him outta the leadoff spot? If Cam can hit 2nd, that would be perfect… Assuming we keep roughly the same roster through next season

go marlins

cantu is not a #2 guy at all. my ideal lineup would be maybin, hermida, hanley, hammer, uggla, cantu, jacobs, treanor, pitcher. i honestly feel the hanley slump was just coincidental, as for the first few games hitting third he was hitting better than he was in the 1 spot. this does leave our defense at the corners weak. ive never liked jacobs at all, and cantu has a bad arm. center will be taken care of by maybin easily. this way we can have some great bench players in gonzo and amezega. in a perfect world, i would say replace jacobs and give cantu a new arm.

with the lineup i just proposed, if hanley struggles in 3rd spot again, but i doubt it, they can just switch maybin and hanleys spots and see how that works.

i honestly dont think they should call him up this year, but they will. probably sometime next month, as he has been striking out less.
