Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Nationals (5/9)
Miami Marlins at Washington Nationals, May 9, 2008 7:35 PM EDT
The NL East Leading Marlins took the redeye and are in Washington to play the Nationals. The Nats have been hot of late winning 7 of their last 10.
Nolasco is just looking to get back into a groove. If he has command of his curve ball, split finger and fast ball he should be fine. It is just a matter of building stamina and getting a consistent feel for his pitches.
Redding has been showing the Redding form of old lately and that ain't good. The good news is, he normally doesn't go past six innings pitched. So if he happens to be on and the Fish can't do anything with him, there will still be some time to beat up the bullpen.
Ichthyomancy is set for action. Best of luck to everyone!

Also, Craig, you didn’t credit me for my player pick yesterday (Hanley). If you could take a look I’d appreciate it :)
AAB pick...
is not very above and beyond, if fact, it was more than likely to happen.
But I will count it for tonight.
Awesome Article
on Miguel Cabrera and the Marlins “not needing him”
http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/other_mlb/view.bg?articleid=1092889&position=recent
Cool article
... and he’s right, the Marlins don’t really need him… we needed to get a better pitcher in the trade, yes, but Cabrera’s bat hasn’t been missed.

Cool article
But I tell you what, there has been some serious venom spit Miggy’s way.
I looked over at Bless You Boys, who posted this wrap-up of Cabrera-hating.
Miggy has dealt with some lofty expectations and it’s pretty ridiculous to blame him for Detroit’s struggles. How about the rest of the struggling lineup, or their below-average pitching thus far? And since when is a guy with a .792 OPS, 6 homers and 22 RBI struggling?
Just gotta feel for the guy.
All relative
“Since when is a guy with a .792 OPS, 6 homers and 22 RBI struggling?”
Since his non-roster invitee replacement has a .813 OPS, 5 HR and 14 RBI… Zing! Sorry Miggy, I still love you though…
The Miggy haters will be eating their words (or conveniently forgetting them) when he finishes the year with 39 HR and 119 RBI.

Hermida
Total pitchers in game ≥ 6
(also, was I right that Jacobs accidentally got Uggla’s player point for Wednesday’s game?)
Uh, no. I stand by Jacobs
Also, you AAB pick is not very above and beyond. Given the pitchers starting for tonight’s game it was more than likely to happen.
But I will count it for tonight.

Question???
I was wondering if you post the results of the picks somewhere? Seems I’ve been stuck at 9 for awhile. Anywhoo, it’s a blast playin, and watching the Fish kickin’ ass this year! thanks, Matty
The points for that night are posted in that night's open thread
Is that what you are asking? Or is it something else?
thats the answer
Boy I feel stupid for not reading the whole blog. Thanks!
Tommy Hutton
anyone catch him talking like Yoda just now?
"Improvement we've seen!"
"This will all end in tears, I just know it."
Hanley
To my amateur eye it almost looks like he’s starting to hit for average instead of swinging for the fences. I really like this and I think it showed in his opposite field hit. Just get good wood on the ball and good things will happen. (Uggla should take note.)
I know the bullpen is tight and all...
but they really don’t need to pitch the game back into a save situation for Gregg
Three old ladys go to a baseball game with a bottle of whisky.
They pass the bottle around untill it is empty…...
What inning is it and how many men are on base?
"This will all end in tears, I just know it."
The joke sounds better
said out loud….
It’s the bottom of the fith and the bags are loaded!
"This will all end in tears, I just know it."
HAHA
Just looked it up cause I was curious, hilarious, don’t want to ruin it
