Jacque Jones joins the Marlins

As LadyFish reported in the comments last night, Jacque Jones will be joining the 25-man roster today .

After the game, the Marlins announced outfielder Jacque Jones would join the team today. To make room, infielder Robert Andino was optioned to Class AAA Albuquerque.

Nothing too surprising here.  First off, Andino needed to go to Albuquerque -- he is young and has talent and rotting away on the bench in the majors was a straight waste of his time.  He needs to be playing everyday and developing his craft.  As it stands right now, depending on what the Marlins decide in future moves he could become trade bait or the team's second baseman or maybe even the short stop, if Hanley is moved to third.  But one thing was for certain, there was little value in showcasing him as the league's best rock-paper-scissors player.  Of course, Brett Carroll may differ with the latter and claim that the title is his own.

I don't expect Jones to see action in center right away.  Alfredo is swinging a hot bat  and Cody is showing signs of returning to form.  If I were to guess, the Marlins will try to get him some at bats and maybe some playing time in left or right field.  But mainly left, as they get him up to speed.

But who knows, they may chunk Jones in center tomorrow until he proves he can't do the job defensively.  While in the meantime, Carroll, Amezaga and Ross can improve on their rock-paper-scissor gaming abilities.

We will see.

Amezega...

Maybe I am too fixated on 2003…but, I think Amezega could become a Juan Pierre caliber/style player. And maybe giving him the starting position in center field would help his confidence and his batting average would improve. But you are right, the last two nights Alfredo has been hitting very well.
