Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Padres at Marlins (5/2)
San Diego @ Florida
It's time to start it anew and the Marlins are hosting the Padres in a three-game set.
Hendrickson appears to be coming into his own. Three of his last four starts were excellent and the other was pretty good. Mark has started four games against San Diego in his career posting a 1.83 ERA. Unfortunately he ended up a 1 and 2 record in the starts.
Germano will be making his first start ever against the Marlins. Oh, I was just checking his spilt stats and this is setting up well. Therefore, I won't mention them. With any luck, he won't right the ship tonight.
The Marlins are playing the Padres and that only means one thing: we get to visit with our SBNation sister site. Now, I'm not sure FishStripes has an "official" SBNation sister site but if we do it is Gaslamp Ball . Don't be surprised if Dex, jbox or some of the other ballers drop by for a visit. And hey, if you are an old timer head on over to Gaslamp, I know they will be happy to see you. Come to think about, even if you're brand new, go introduce yourself, they are good people. A little crazy...but good people.
Ichthyomancy is a little different tonight, for you see: it's Bark at the Park Night. Besides your usual picks you will be guessing the number of dogs in attendance. And yes, we will get a number on the lovable canines at stadium since their owners have to buy a $6 ticket to get them into the game. Good Luck!

Thanks for letting us play
Attendance: Sold Out (I’m imagining South Florida is all abuzz about the Padres arrival.)
MVP: Our catcher, Colt Morton. Because he is 8 ft tall and I never pick against 8 footers.
Edmonds dives for a ball and misses it by 6 feet.
286 dogs. And at least one cat. Someone always has to bring a cat and screw things up.

Ususal Picks
Just visiting, so not sure what your usual picks are…
I’m gonna say:
11,498 attendance
Ugla mvp for no other reason other than the fact he’s a stud
Mr Morton will make some news…
184 (real) dogs and 12 stuffed animals (includes stupid purses/backpacks and mascots, official or otherwise)

Don’t know your usual picks but here goes…
12,568
Hendrickson will be lights out
Uggla will cycle, so will Hendrickson.
188 doggies, 4 cats, and a hamster. Do seagulls count?

Lineup
Except for squeezing in Willingham at 4th this is the lineup I’ve been waiting for. Doesn’t seem to be making much of a difference yet though.
Come on Dan. Hit another.

Oh....
didn’t even see that we were supposed to pick the number of dogs. I was wondering why the heck fluxuation had “321 dogs” at the end of his pick. (I thought perhaps it was a gang reference, so I called the police on him.)
by Fishcrazy on May 2, 2008 8:28 PM EDT 0 recs
lineup
This is absolutely the lineup I have been waiting for. Love it. Uggla at the tail end adds a little juice, and I think Hanley’s “power” (not even contact occurring right now) is better suited at the 3 with Hermida at 2. Glad to see Uggla is feeling good at 6. Can’t wait to see Carrol start a game.
Don’t know if anyone else noticed, but it seems Hanley and Maybin are slumping at about the same exact time.

Did anyone just hear that?! over 700 dogs?!! thats insane. If they want attendance they need this bark at the park thing every night.

The number I heard was 754 dogs
Now, if we could combine a bark at the park with one of kids field-trip things we could get in the 20,000 range

Aniston
I think if they made her come every night the crowds would be bigger. She looks pretty good. What is the allure of the bark at the park? Can’t believe that many people actually plan on bringing their dogs. I could never bring mine, he’d see the ball on the field and no one could stop him from going after it.

Quick question
Craig, if you could check my AAB pick in the comments, I actually wrote in Marlins greater than or equal to (≥) 3 HR, but you put it on the table as just greater than (>).
I’d like the point please :)

Too funny
Not one glballer picked an actual padre to do anything! lol
Except Morton, I picked Morton. He threw someone out stealing…
We only have like two of those for the whole season, that has to be worth something?
So what do I do with my point, can I redeem it for something at the end of the season?
Thanks for letting us play. ; )

Which Dad actually did. Sorry if I didn’t make that more clear. That’s got to be at least +2 right?
