The NL East Leading Marlins are going for the series win today, but it could prove to be a little difficult.  Then again, maybe not.  We will see.

The Hopper takes the mound and has been doing well of late.  As with every Badenhop start, the sinker has to work, the pitches need to be down and the defense needs to do their part.

Greinke has really come into his own this season, not allowing more than three runs in any of his starts.  But he does give up hits.  Lefties tend to see his pitches better, and he normally does worse during day games.  After about 90 pitches, he really becomes hittable.

An interesting note from yesterday's game :

Matt Treanor, who has started three straight games behind the plate and gone 3-for-6 with three RBIs, was scratched from the lineup for Mike Rabelo (1-for-3 with a walk on Saturday). Manager Fredi Gonzalez said both will likely split time all year.

Scratched doesn't mean they wanted to give Rabelo a start, something I have no problem with.  Scratched means Treanor couldn't go.  Hopefully it is nothing serious.

It's Sunday and that means it's a day game, because there is no way on the face of this planet you will ever see the Marlins v. Royals on Sunday night baseball.

Ichthyomancy is ready for action, so Good Luck!

6-0...this is ugly.

Bad defense, sloppy pitching, no hitting yet…c’mon guys!

A few thoughts entering the 6th

-Waechter deserves a shot at the rotation. Mid-90s heater, good change, knows how to work guys.

-Alfredo cannot lead off anymore. He just can’t. It’s a disaster. I love him but he can’t hit.

Concur

on both counts. Amezaga needs to totally reconfigure his batting philosophy.

Also, i looked at the future schedule, it definitelly gets much harder from here on out. Josh needs to make it back soon.

I agree, but...

who’d replace Amezaga at leadoff? guess Hanley could go back there, but it seemed like his move to 3rd had that long-rumored permanence to it. (And until the last few games, he had done well hitting 3rd.) If not Hanley, then who?

And two straight lousy starts for Badenhop. In fact, I think he’s really only had one very good start this season. I hadn’t thought about Waechter, but you’re right….it may be time to try him, or even audition a minor-leaguer.
