Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Nationals (4/9)
Florida @ Washington
The NL East leading Marlins are back in action today. (Oh, if you don't think I'm going to milk the fact that the Marlins are in first place, you don't know me at all.)
After the unnecessary day off...and don't even begin to bring up the fact that originally Monday was scheduled to be the Nats home opener. If they could change the schedule for the game against the Braves, they could have made the off-day be on Monday and let the two teams play three-in-a-row without interruption.
Anyway, the Marlins and Nationals resume the three game series.
The Marlins starting pitcher is Scott Olsen.
The Nationals will send Jason Bergmann to the mound.
Game time is 7:10 p.m.
Olsen had a decent outing, last time out, especially considering he is still working his way back into form. If one were to measure Olsen's outing against those of his fellow starters so far this year, he done good.
Bergmann's first time to mound this season he pitched like he hasn't developed arm strength yet. He started well but faltered after five innings.
Ichthyomancy leader board is up but it still requires some work on my part to make it look pretty. It turns out it is in place on the site that isn't friendly to tables and therefore I am having to force things. But it is a long season and it will be done soon enough.
Note to Mbaamin: Your site viewing problem have been discovered and I will let you know what the problem is, in the comments, as soon as I get a chance.
Ichthyomancy is poorly rested from the day off but is ready to go. So Good Luck!

update
I mean Wes Helms gets a pinch hit. If he is in the lineup I may change this pick right before the game.

I forgot this wasn't on TV, I was looking forward to it.

They would pick the best game of the season so far to be the first one not on tv. I'm steamed.

Minor league note
I listened to the Carolina home opener. Volstad had another great outing; 6 IP, 5 H (all singles), 1 R, 3 BB, 1 K and he got the win.
The interesting thing about the game was that Wayne Rosenthal, the Marlins pitching coodinator was in attendance to specifically watch Volstad. Is Miller's time numbered?
by mbaamin08 on Apr 9, 2008 10:48 PM EDT 0 recs
Another note on Volstad
Volstad induces a ton of ground balls. Excluding the strikeout from the 18 outs Volstad recorded, he got 14 of the 17 outs via ground balls.
