Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Pirates at Marlins (4/5)

Pittsburgh @ Florida

Today, uh, tonight is a special day night for it is the 15-year anniversary of the Marlins winning their first game ever.  On April 5, 1993 in JRS the Marlins beat the Dodgers 6-3 and for a brief moment they were the only team in MLB possessing a historical record without a loss.  That would soon change.

Also, it is the first Super Saturday of the season.  Normally I would just tell you who was playing at the after game concert and be done.  But a writer with the Miami Herald did such a good of presenting it, it must be quoted.

After the Marlins whip the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday night (game time is 7:05 p.m.), stick around for a concert by Poison singer Bret Michaels, followed by fireworks.

The game time is not exactly right, but it is close enough considering the eloquence of the sentence.  It's nice to know there is at least one Marlins fan at the Herald.

Now onto the game.

The Marlins starting pitcher is Mark Hendrickson.

The Pirates plan to send Paul Maholm in to do their bidding.

Game time is 7:10 p.m.

This will be Hendrickson's second start of the season.  In his first start he pitched five innings and four of the innings were scoreless,  Unfortunately in that other inning, the fourth, he gave up 6 runs.  Hendrickson has had some success against the Pirates in the past but hasn'i started against them since 2005.

Since the Pirates are going with a five-man rotation this will be Maholm's first start of the season.  Maholm is normally a slow starter and gets better as the season progresses also he is prone to giving up the long ball.  He is a lefty, so expect to see Cody Ross in center.

Ichthyomancy is ready to kick it into gear.  All you have to do is make your picks in the comments and then sit back and cheer for the Fish.  And always, Good Luck!

Hendrickson...

Does he realize he's not playing basketball anymore?

I don't think he needed the moving pick there....

Also, rousing commentary from Rich and Tommy on how steals are undervalued by "stats geeks nobody likes."

Holy cow...

only 15,000 on a Super Saturday? This is really looking bad. It seems attendance has cratered.

But that's okay, we're on the road to 160-2, so attendance will pick up as we keep winning.

Picks for Sunday:
15,200
Jacobs (ride the hot hand)
Snell - gone before the 6th
