The NL East Leading Marlins will be playing their final game against the Pirates this season.

That's right, after tonight, the Marlins won't play the Pirates again during the 2008 regular season.  Which led Fredi to say:

"It's weird,'' Gonzalez said. "I like more of a balanced schedule. You'd come here twice. Instead, you play 18 times against your division.''

Now onto the game.

Nolasco will keep trying to build stamina and arm strength.  In his first two he has ran out of gas after four innings, and then the home runs started flying.  Of course it isn't ideal that his extended rehab is taking place during the season as a starter, but that is just the way it is.

Mahlom deepest outing this season was 5.1 IP.  The Marlins faced him on April 5th and tagged him for 5 runs in 5 innings.  But before anyone starts getting too giddy he did strikeout 9 Marlins in that outing.  Mahlom is a lefty so expect to see Cody in center.

Ichthyomancy is up and running and ready for another day.  As always, Good Luck!

Craig, you said you wanted me to remind you about the missing Sunday point so, uh, here it is.

Sorry for the trouble. If I end up winning the whole thing by 1 point, we’ll all look back at this and share a good laugh. But probably not hugs. I don’t know where you guys have been.

Just goes to show, it’s not the stadium, it’s the product on the field. (Tommy actually said that last night)
I hope Sampson and Loria are paying attention.

Rotation adjustment coming?

Today’s game preview has a comment made by Fredi Gonzalez saying that with the next two Monday’s off, he may tweak the rotation to skip a “struggling starter”. The question becomes, which “struggling starter”? Only Olsen and Hendrickson have done well and been consistent.

Miller would be the obvious choice. He has yet to pitch more than 5 innings and has not put up a truly good start yet. His last outing was the best of the four but he was still getting hit hard and got out of it with help from his defense.

Nolasco was good out of the bullpen but has yet to find success in the rotation.

Badenhop had a good first start but showed shades of VandenHurk in his last start.

i hate...

that the game is not on tv tonight. mlb gameday is just not an adequate substitution.

by FSUMarlins on Apr 22, 2008 8:02 PM EDT reply actions

No TV...

such is the life of a first-place team, I suppose.

At least I’m getting my fill of us on national sports shows about our success so far…. oh wait….

If it was a close play. I guess that answers my question.

by Bumppo on Apr 22, 2008 9:12 PM EDT reply actions

He was safe

They just showed a clip on mlb.com, which is grainy, but it’s still clear Hanley is safe.

by Matt Wilson on Apr 22, 2008 9:15 PM EDT reply actions

Where is HadMatter...

and why isn’t he making a beer run?

by craig on Apr 22, 2008 9:49 PM EDT reply actions

I seriously considered it

by HadMatter on Apr 23, 2008 8:03 AM EDT up reply actions

Haha

Way to answer your own question…
Helms was a better choice but it wasn’t really Fredi’s decision, being tossed and all.

Your Occasional Miggy Update...

Leyland announced that Miggy is his full-time first baseman from now on.

This sets a pretty good over/under on the number of games after Hanley leaves (yeah, yeah, “if he leaves” ok…) that he’s moved off short. 21 games… place bets now!

by dan 2.0 on Apr 23, 2008 12:34 AM EDT reply actions

I'll take the over...

since I think Hanley would like to be a good fielder. I never got the impression Cabrera ever cared.
