Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Astros (4/11)
Miami Marlins at Houston Astros, Apr 11, 2008 8:05 PM EDT
The National League East leading Marlins are in Houston to take on the Astros.
The Marlins starting pitcher is Ricky Nolasco.
The Astros are going with Roy Oswalt.
Game time is 8:05 p.m.
Nolasco will be making his first start of season, taking over the spot left by VandenHurk. Ricky has looked good in long relief and the curve ball seems to be working. He got the memo and actually read it and has developed a change up which we should see tonight.
Oswalt is an All-World pitcher but is going through hard times in the early part of the season. He is having trouble locating his breaking pitches. With any luck, he won't discover the answer to his problems tonight.
Note to Mbaamin: I give up, there is no way I'm ever going to get enough free time to let you know your viewing problem. So I will do it here. The problem is with IE 6.0 and the way the new SB Nation sites are coded. The SB Nation sites are designed to look good in IE 7.0, Firefox, Safari and some others, but they never found a way to incorporate IE 6.0 without messing up all the others. The usual suggestion by the tech folks is to upgrade to IE 7.0, but you can't do that since you're running on Windows 2000. IE 7.0 won't work on your platform. (which by the way is one of my favorite Windows platforms, not that it matters) So that leaves you two options: either live with what you've got or download Firefox 2.0 and use it to view FishStripes. I wish I had better news, but I don't.
Ichthyomancy is good to go and ready for some action. So make your picks and Good Luck!

Craig, thank you for checking on that for me. I did find out that if I scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen, I can see the table. I guess that will have to do.

HANLEY for the cycle!
The Houston announcer said this right before Hanley's HR
"it's a rather odd game...he (oswalt) has six strikeouts but has given up three home runs."
Odd?! This is how we play every game.
Dang, man...
these Fish can mash!
I would also like to direct everyone to the story about Rabelo coming off the DL, wherein I made the following comment:
"I've seen nothing from this guy, and have no idea why the team seems to think so highly of him."
I know baseball awesomely!
Well..
neither of the Astros home runs holds a candle to the shot that Cantu did... that was a blast...
Go 'Stros!
The game is definitely being played in the Astros home park,,,
They know just where to place it to hit it out
Yeah, the Astros announcers are pretty low key
I'm blocked by mlb.tv for this and the next two games but is being shown on tv where I live
I about felt like it
I hate being surrounded by Astro fans but it felt great to be on the winning end and see them all upset.
Dang.
Even amidst the offensive outburst, I still missed the AAB.
I should've gone with my original pick:
Marlins runs - many
Can't believe...
I missed this game.
And there's absolutely zero chance I'll see any highlights on Baseball Yankees/Sox Tonight.
Great night!
Just got home! Great game! Lots of homers!
Here are some of my observations: Nolasco looked good in the middle innings. I think a lot of Nolasco's problems in the first were because he got mad after one of the early singles. I saw him pump his hand like he was frustrated and I think that's why he gave up the three runs in the first. After he settled dow, he pitched much better. He seemed to be getting tired in the 5th. His velocity was down from the early innings. The home plate umpire had no consistent strike zone and he was driving me insane all day. Hermida made up for that missed cathc yesterday with a great catch by the Astro's bullpen to deprive Lee of an extra-base hit.
One down, two to go.
Enron Field
I saw a game there the first year after the Astro Dome and I remember those RR X's are pretty far up there.
How did the Cantu shot look?
"This will all end in tears, I just know it."
Cantu's homer
It was awesome! When he first hit it, I thought it was going to clear the railroad tracks but it bounced off the tracks and out onto the street below.
Really, all of the home runs were well hit. The only homer that wouldn't have been a homer in any other park was Berkman's opposite field shot into the first row of the Crawford boxes in left field. The rest of the homers would have been gone in any ballpark.
You can't really blame the wind for any of these homers, either. There was a little wind but the wind was blowing in from center.
