Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Mets at Marlins (4/1)
New York @ Florida
The Marlins will try this once again. The good news is the pressure is off since the Marlins hopes for a perfect season (162-0) are off the table, the team can now just sit back and relax and play ball.
The Marlins starting pitcher is Rick VandenHurk.
The Mets are going with Pedro Martinez.
Game time is 7:10 p.m.
VandenHurk faced the Mets twice last year and the two outings, to put it mildly, didn't go that well. But that was last year and Rick is better at his craft now.
Martinez has been injured most of the last two seasons, but claims to be healthy now. Even assuming he is healthy, his dominance begins to quickly erode once he hits 100 pitches. So foul off some balls, boys.
Oh, if you click through the Game Thread, there is a game preview, which is probably a lot better than what I'm writing.
I'm still learning this new fandangled Game Thread thingy, but the Ichthyomancy table should be going right under this sentence, eventually. But in case I forget to tell you later: Good Luck!

Back to blogging
Hey Craig,
I'm back to blogging. I wanted to cal your attention to a post I wrote today about the Marlins and their payroll. I take the unpopular stance of defending Loria.

Pinto
Last outing, he gave up a homer and loaded the bases. I guess he's doing better this time.

Let me know...
what you find out. I've been thinking about getting one myself, as the coverage in Gainesville is pretty dismal.
Maybe a post on the options for us out-of-towners is in order...

Dang, man...I knew attendance would be down, but 15,000 on the second game of the season?!
Is that right?

At the game
I was at the game last night (Two for Tuesday, very nice!) so I didn't get to hear the commentary. Did Gregg get a single pitch over the plate? I think he only had 7 strikes and most of those looked like the batter reaching for a hit.
Also what happened with Hurk? He seemed to be pitching ok, but next think I see he's up to 50 pitches in the 2nd.
Gardner, Kensing and Tank looked real good though.
