New Stadium - New Uniforms?

With a new stadium will come some other changes.

When the Marlins eventually move into their park, they will officially change to the Miami Marlins. At that time, they also will revise their uniforms.

"There will be a complete change," Loria said. "Nothing has been designed yet. It will be different. It will be fun. It will be something we can all grab on to and call our own."

I wasn't having any trouble embracing the Marlins present uniforms.  I wasn't having any problem calling them our own.

This is not good.

Hopefully, he is just talking about changing the logo on the cap and the name on the road jerseys. Though I don't see why replacing a F with a M and Florida to Miami would be all that earth shattering. Sadly, I think were are in for bigger changes than that.

If the uniform's primary color and the seats in the stadium end up being orange, I will....well, I don't know what I will do, but I won't be happy.

Unis
I'm glad we've gradually worked orange out of the unis.

For my money, nothing looks better than black and teal.

Teal
Teal is one of the best colors in baseball, but it's all but disappeared from their unis. Not that I want the teal caps back (yech), but I certainly miss the teal jerseys. You get the sense that Marlins marketing decided it was a "'90s color" and phased it out.

I don't know if Miami politicos will have any input on marketing, but if so, I hope they push for some more teal.

As far as the logo, a marlin jumping through an M would probably look a little better than wedging one through the arms of an F.

Hey now...
As a proud owner and occasional wearer of the teal cap, I respectfully take issue with such yech-ing.

Heh...
well, I will say it brings back memories of Clemente Nunez, Nigel Wilson and Dave Magadan. Them's were the days.

well played
Dave Magadan... what a great reference by you.

I agree
I happen to really like the look of the current unis, especially the home uni, much more so than past iterations. Using teal as an accent rather than a primary color is the way to go, IMO.  I recall reading a statement from Samson a while back, however, in which he alluded to the fact that orange was to become a primary color in the future.  Not thrilled about that.  I was also hoping the change would be more seamless, with the current design basically retained and just the "M" substituted for the "F" on the caps and sleeves (and "Miami" for "Florida" on the front of the road unis).

This announcement will make the current merchandise 'lame-duck' in way.  Of course, there will be those who will want to snatch up the current stuff in anticipation of its 'vintage' status in the near future. But three more years of this uniform limbo?  I would rather they make the change sooner rather than later.

Yes, I have a prospect fetish. That's why I'm a Marlins fan.

Then again,
every bit of merchandise with a player's name on it has basically been a lame duck for the last 10 years.

Players Names
No kidding.  I will probably be there on opening day with my almost brand new Cabrera T-Shirt!  Probably right behind a guy with a Beckett give away T, just in front of the guy with the Lowell T.
Build a stadium downtown and I'll buy season tickets

They say I'm boring
But I like the current jersey's just fine, especially the gray.  I just hope they don't go retro like the Padres did.  I like their logo but the colors remind me more of pajamas.

Everything Old Is New Again...
I would like to say I remembered this originally, but I was actually digging through the archives for something completely unrelated when I ran across this post by Craig on somebody recreating the old Miami Marlins hat.

To update that story, what had been drawn up as looking pretty much teal with an orange brim ended up being a much bluer cap with orange piping.  I like the piping and the choice to go with one color, but the blue treads dangerously close to Mets territory.

But you just know that the future update will indeed show design cues from the Satchel Paige era Miami Marlins -- perhaps to replace The U at the Orange Bowl site, we'll see the return of The M.

Orange?
Oh, no! Just keep the black and teal! That is color that I like.
