Game Today

The Marlins say goodbye to Jupiter until next spring and head home to face the Yankees in the friendly pathetic some kind of confines of JRS for the final two games of the spring.

The Marlins starting pitcher is Andrew Miller.

The Yankees have on the slate Mike Mussina.

Game time is 7:10 p.m.

The game will be carried by both of the Marlins radio affiliates: 790 The Ticket and WQBA 1140.

One interesting radio note:

The Marlins told WFTL-640 AM that it would be violating MLB rules if it goes ahead with plans to air the Yankees broadcast of Friday's Yankees-Marlins game, and would face legal action if it does.

Not really sure what to say about this, but I will take it in the best possible light -- it's good that the Marlins are backing up the two flagships.  (Yeah, I know that probably isn't the case, but it is still the spring, so allow me to dream a little longer.)

Here are tonight's stat thingys:

Yankees

I know they broadcast Yankee games in Tampa. The initial article announcing them coming down here, seem to give a pretty clear case of them being allowed to.

Are any actual Marlins fans going to these overpriced spring training games or like me waiting for opening day?

No Need to Wonder...

...how the Yankees get away with having their games on Tampa radio, right smack in the middle of the Rays' territory. That's been old George's territory long before the Rays ever were there.

And it sounds as if the Yankees broadcast is not on either 640 or 1400 tonight here in SoFla.

The Yankees Radio network wikipedia post suggests the rule isn't over territories but rather broadcast rights. The Rays' radio networks own sole broadcast rights during their home games whether the Yankees are playing the Rays or the Red Sox. I wonder if there was some confusion among MLB, Marlins and its affiliates and 640 whether that rule applied to exhibition games.
