Florida Marlins make additional cuts

As Mbaamin posted yesterday in the comments, the Marlins sent four more players to the minor league camp.

The team optioned right-handed pitchers Eulogio De La Cruz and Scott Nestor to Triple-A Albuquerque. Outfielder Jai Miller also was optioned to the Isotopes.

Additionally, second baseman Chris Coghlan was reassigned to Minor League camp.

The transactions trim the roster to 56.

All four players are highly regarded prospects within the organization.

None of these are really a surprise. However, I thought that Jai Miller would've gotten a little more time in the big league camp. But I guess with the way De Aza and Carroll are hitting he was expendable.

An additional cut

I got a text message this morning (and it was confirmed on the Marlins press pass) that Carlos Martinez was optioned to AAA today. This is not the least bit shocking since Martinez has been stuck in the Dominican Republic trying to work out visa issues and has not thrown a single pitch in the Grapefruit League this season.
