Anibal Sanchez shut down

As least as winter ball is concerned.  Anibal Sanchez has called it quits on his 2008 winter ball experience and given the numbers it is best that he did.

At the Marlins' request, right-hander Anibal Sanchez has ended his participation in the Venezuelan Winter League after two starts.

Sanchez joined Magallanes against the Marlins' wishes, Beinfest said, and posted an 11.37 ERA in two starts. Sanchez allowed 15 hits and eight earned runs in 6 1/3 innings without a single strikeout.

"We really didn't want him to pitch in the first place," Beinfest said.

I don't put much stock into his two start performance but it does amplify the uncertainty as to whether he will be able to pitch in 2009 with any consistency at all.

Returning from shoulder surgery is tough, and it may take awhile.  Hopefully with some rest and rehab, he will do better come spring training.

I think

they shut him down because they were trying to build up some trade value and instead he blew what he had

Pitchers

Which makes me thinks they are kicking themselves for trading Olsen right about now….
