Chum Bucket

The Rule 5 draft is today, and I guess the Marlins can make a selection if they want.  But if they do, the player will need to remain on the 25 roster for the 2009 season or the club will face penalties.  I doubt there is another Uggla out there, there rarely is.

But we will know about the results of the draft soon enough.

Should the Marlins select a player, feel free to chat away.

Or you could comment on the sports happens of the day.  Let's see, there is college basketball and pro basketball.  If that does it for you, knock yourself out.

But we aren't all about sports here at FishStripes, so if you have a non sports related topic of interest to you, get after it.

Most importantly, Have a Great Day!

Treanor

I know that he’s a good dugout guy, and he’s pretty good at stopping the ball, but he is not Russel Martin and you don’t win games in he dugout. He will never be good offensively and I don’t particularly think he calls a very good game. True, he is better behind the plate than Baker, and we do need some serious experience behind the plate for these young pitchers, but I think the offensive difference is insurmountable and Baker has caught a lot of these guys in the minors. I am curious to see what the lineup will look like next year already.

Rule 5 Draft

Marlins picked up Zach Kroenke -

Zach Kroenke, LHP, Yankees: The 2005 fifth-rounder out of the University of Nebraska made it up to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2008, combining for a 2.85 ERA and a .190 batting average against across two levels."

Seems like a good move. Probably should have tried to find a catcher though…

Oh, and Rhodes has gone to the Reds for $4MM over 2 years… I think we could have ponied that up…

ugh.

We lost Rhodes for that little? Did we even make a serious effort to retain him? Are they still under the delusion that Tankersley can be a left-handed specialist?

Also, given the Yankees’ signing of Sabathia and likely signing of Burnett, I would like to mention that MLB sucks. Isn’t anyone else really freaking tired of the Yankees either signing or pursuing EVERY top free-agent, year after year? And the only reason they don’t get ALL of them is because the Red Sox get the rest.

I’m a person who roots for complete chaos in the BCS in hopes of finally toppling it. I’m starting to wonder if that’s what needs to happen in MLB, too. Let the Yankees win every goddam title for 17 years straight, watch the fans stop caring, and then maybe we can get a salary cap.

Damned Ones

Yankees have already won 26. But they have not won since 2000. I say good luck to them, but I appreciate our formula for winning a little better.

What tha hells going on here?

WHY ISNT TEXAS in the BCS game? Why lose the best defensive catcher on the team n not sign RHodes for that little money?

I wrote an article on Bleacher Report

about the need for the MLB Owners to grow a pair of cajones like the NHL owners and hold a lockout. I can’t wait for statistics during this season, given the economy, about ticket prices and sales…
