Around SBN: SB Nation interviews Jerome Bettis

scouting the marlins

I'm curious about one of the marlins players, alfreda amezega.   i'm a big fan of defensive metrics, and what i can find about his time at shortstop is that he's pretty darn good, say one of the best in baseball.  unfortunately, he hasn't spent a tremendous amount of time there, and when it comes to defensive metrics it takes a pretty large sample size.   so i was hoping that someone could help me out with a visual scouting report of what they've seen from him there, to help confirm or disprove the small sample size of numbers i do have.

Alfredo is the best defensive short stop in the Marlins organization.

Heck, he may even be the best in the league.

I don’t know you if have seen this play, but it isn’t all that unusual when he is playing short.

The Amazin’ Amezaga

You absolutely correct that he rarely plays short stop anymore, but he is one of the more natural defenders at the position that I have ever seen.

He was moved because when JP left they needed a CF,

but supposedly he was a good SS while he was there.

Space.

It's a problem we face.

So we never go anywhere.

We just stay in one place.
