Chum Bucket

And I thought yesterday's Chum Bucket post had to be quick, little did I know.

Oh, in case you didn't catch it yesterday, Gamefish had a post to honor the birthday of Alfredo.  Check it out.

It is the usual Chum Bucket, so do what you do.

I said it would be quick.  Have a Great Day!

A better signing
The Marlins avoided arbitration with Matt Treanor and signed him to a one year deal today. The deal is for 1 year, $705,000. I wish that Matt would be the starting catcher but the front office seams convinced that Rabelo is better. Ugh.

treany
I know you guys are in love with Treanor, but is he really worth $700k?  Maybe I'm just not familiar enough with catchers, but I've never been a fan.

I agree
Matty showed a lot of promise last year and I like everything he brings to the club.

Decent production for a catcher, good rapport with pitchers, always hustles and plays hard.

I really don't like a timeshare with catchers.  I think maybe you have one guy in particular that works well with a certain pitcher, so you spot start, but generally I like having a starter and a backup that will play maybe 1-2 games a week.

I think, given the opportunity to compete, Matty has a real good chance of winning the starting job.

that's the good thing...
at least tbe Fish give people a chance in spring training. After all, de Aza wasn't slated to win the CF job last year, either.

But who knows, maybe Beinfest and Co. know something about this Rabelo fella.

Matty's not giving up, either
Matt Treanor is coming out fighting for the starting catcher roll. I sincerely hope he gets it.

Off Topic
But I read this great article on all-star team made up of suspected steroid players.  It's pretty funny... and what an amazing team it would make! lol
