The Weekend Chum Bucket
Woo Hoo! It's the weekend and that means only thing...it's time for the Weekend Chum Bucket.
The forum to discuss or comment on whatever meets your fancy. I believe the NFL playoffs are still in full swing. I probably should follow professional football closer that I do, but I won't. But the topics aren't limited to baseball, football or any other sport for that matter, they can be about anything.
In fact, I have a question: has anyone seen the movie "The Kite Runner" and if so, what did you think of it. The reason I'm asking is that I'm considering catching it while it is in the theatre. Any input would be much appreciated.
As always the Weekend Chum Bucket is yours do with what you please, so have at it.
Have a Great Weekend!

as long as we've still got Van Horne,
I also liked O'Brien and Boog Schiambi a lot.

Hm..
What we do have is the best university in the state, as well as the best collegiate athletics in the southeast (remember that whole back-to-back-to-back championship thing last year).
Not nice to hate.

But it's fun.
But more importantly, "the best collegiate athletics in the southeast" is a pretty ridiculous claim. Yes, football and men's basketball are the highest profile sports and UF has won some titles recently, but there are dozens and dozens of sports and many universities in the south are in the midst of actual dynasties in some of them. I'm not going to go through and find out, but I'd bet Auburn probably has more championships in mens/womens swimming and diving since 2000 than UF does in everything combined. Regardless, to harken back to the academic argument, I'd put a program like UNC's up against UF sport for sport (and I'd rather spend my days in Chapel Hill too).
Plus you guys smell bad.

Want to ignore this argument...
U.S. News & World Report National Rankings
Undergrad - UF (#49), UM (#52)
Law - UF (#47), UM (#70)
Med - UF (#48), UM (not listed - out of top 50)
Business - UF (#37), UM (not listed - out of top 50)
Engineering - UF (#26), UM (not listed - out of top 50)
As far as athletics go, UF has very strong programs in the 'non-major' sports. Volleyball is consistently ranked and has won the SEC each year for the past 16 years. Tennis, swimming/diving, gymnastics and soccer are all nationally ranked each year, the key here being consistency. There is a wide breadth of excellence in athletics at UF, which is what I was referring to earlier.
Anyway, that's the last I'll say on the matter.
