Simulation Madness

The Marlins pulled off one of the biggest upsets so far in the Simulation Madness tournament that I am running.  The Marlins defeated the Phillies four games to two in the first round.  The tournament has all 30 teams in it.  I am using the baseball simulation program that I wrote in VB6 to run each game.  Each series is a best four out of seven series, with each team using a 5 man rotation and the computer managing both teams.  ZIPS projections are used for player data.  The Marlins will face a red-hot Chicago Cubs team that swept the Giants in the first round, in the second round.  Good luck to the Virtual Marlins.

Marlins vs Cubs
The Marlins fell down 3 games to 0 and then battled all the way back forcing a game seven.  Johnson went up against Lilly.  Johnson pitched great, going 8 innings and only allowing 5 hits to the Cubbies.  An eighth inning two run home run by Alfonso Soriano turned out to be the difference as the Cubs held on to win 3-1 and advance to the quarter finals where they will face the Cardinals.  vr, Xei

Boooo
I don't think ZIPS has a Bartman projection factored in.  That would have tipped it to us, I'm sure of it.

All in the seeding...
Couldn't help but notice that it was a 12 vs. 5 matchup.  That's always good for an upset in the NCAA basketball tournament, why not here?

Finals
The Cubs won the NL half of the bracket and the Red Sox the AL half and will be meeting in the finals this week.
