Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Day Off Today

Since the LDS ended early, there are no games today and therefore this calls for a nonspecific Open Thread .  Speaking of which and now that I think about it, doesn't the very definition of an Open Thread mean it is nonspecific?

Anyway, if you are looking for something to read, the Toronto Sun is running a series on whether hockey, baseball, basketball, football or soccer produces the best athletes and today it features the case for baseball.

The QUINTessential athletic debate

Check it out, if you care to.

The Thread is up for grabs so feel free to discuss whatever your heart desires.

And as always, have a great day!

Athletes?
I'm not even going to look at that article because one of my favorite quotes of all time is from John Kruk in response to a reporter or somebody asking how he could be so heavy and be a professional athlete and he said "I'm not a professional athlete, I'm a professional baseball player" or something like that...

Best athletes? That's easy
NASCAR drivers. Man, those guys are serious athletes. Next up: golfers.

Wait....no games tonight??
I just realized what this means!! What am I going to do without seeing a Frank TV commercial every 5 seconds? I'm already going into withdrawal.

Your opinion on Roxy Bernstein?
The A's have a couple of announcers, Vince Cotroneo on radio and Glen Kuiper on television, who are average at best.  I would be interested in hearing specific praise or criticism of Bernstein's work with the Marlins; what parts of the job was he especially good at and what areas need improvement?  I've enjoyed his work on Cal basketball but I haven't heard him do baseball.

It sounds like the main reason for his leaving the Marlins job was the geographical separation from Cal; obviously that wouldn't be a problem if he worked for the A's.

You could a lot worse than Roxy
I think he would be better for the radio broadcast than television for the main reason he has the banter necessary for radio.

He is knowledgeable about the game but would probably need some time to learn the A's.  For the Marlins he tells interesting tidbits and some stories during the lulls.  Like I said, you could a lot worse.

proposal
i think on top of the daily picks, we fishstripers should pick the overall winner (for 1 point) and in how many games (2 more) for each series.

just a thought.
