The Streak was Jinxed

The streak didn't have a chance at setting a new franchise record last night because someone jinxed it by doing something different.

I didn't do anything differently. Neither did Maverick and Photi certainly didn't. But someone did. And their actions were so influential that neither the Rally Fish nor the all powerful Rally Beer Run could negate it.

Manager Joe Girardi rejoined the Marlins on Wednesday after missing Tuesday's game to ride out Tropical Storm Ernesto at his Broward County home with his pregnant wife, Kim.

Girardi said he felt like a fan but had a few nervous moments watching on TV as bench coach Gary Tuck guided the Marlins to a 9-1 win against the Cardinals.

"It's harder watching it (on TV) than it is here (at the ballpark)," Girardi said.

Well Joe, I really don't know how to break it to you but - you jinxed the streak. When the streak started you spent every night at home in Florida and when the team took to the road and you spent the night at your home - the team tied the franchise record.

This brings to mind one of the classic quotes from Bull Durham.

Crash Davis: I told him that a player on a streak has to respect the streak.

Annie Savoy: Oh fine.

Crash Davis: You know why? Because they don't - -they don't happen very often.

Annie Savoy: Right.

Crash Davis: If you believe you're playing well because you're getting laid, or because you're not getting laid, or because you wear women's underwear, then you ARE! And you should know that!

Joe, you really should have stayed in Florida for one more night.
