Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Marlins at Padres (6/9)

The trip out West reaches its final destination: San Diego.  A very beautiful city when it isn't threatened by wild fires.

The starting pitcher for the Marlins is Ricky Nolasco.  The Padres will tap Chris Young for the start.

Game time is 10:05 p.m.

Nolasco has been the consummate road warrior this season, going 3-0 with an 0.89 ERA.

Young has been lights out in his last two starts.  But three starts ago he was lit up like a christmas tree by the Braves.  He has also been better on the road than at home.

If you get a chance, I highly recommend you visit our friends at Gaslamp Ball.  They are a little bit off the wall but are a fun laid back group.

Ichthyomancy is well rested and ready to go. Be sure to get your picks in on time.

Here's today's Ichthyomancy pick table:

Hanley goes hitless :(

Hey i'm not sure if Willingham was any good, but why not put him back at catcher?  then leave the outfield stocked with Borchard, Abercrombie, and Hermida ....... Cody Ross is a wasteland

I'm on MLB.tv also since...
the game is not being shown on my extra innings package.

It wouldn't matter what kind of monitor you have, it's always kinda of blurry.

The picture seems worse than last year.  I loathe MLB.tv

Doing this in the wrong order
the fly ball to center goes on the 1st or 2nd out, the strikeout goes on the 3rd out.

Need to do a little modifying in the strategy

question
why doesnt Willingham start at catcher?  does his offense suffer when he does?

by 17MarlinS35 on Jun 10, 2006 12:01 AM EDT reply actions

I wouldn't start him at catcher
He would hurt the team more defensively than the OF bat would increase offensive production over the present catchers.

Also, since he is showing himself to be a good hitter there is no reason bang him up behind the plate.  Catchers have to take off one to two games a week to recover.

And since he is having back spasms again I don't think catcher would suit his body.

Just my opinion.

Damn it!
mlb.com says:

"We're sorry! Your data indicate that you are prevented from watching this game LIVE due to the flo local or national live broadcast restrictions. Please try an MLB.TV game that doesn't include this team. "

I was just watching the fucking game!

wow that
sucks.  that happens to me for every single Marlins game, thank god my mets dont play the devil-rays or that would be two teams i'd be exiled from watching .... espn's gamecast thing is amazing though, the little pitcher throws the ball and everything, its hilarious, blows mlb's gameday out of the water in every aspect.

mlb.tv can get infuriating at times though

by 17MarlinS35 on Jun 10, 2006 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions

yea
its pretty neat, to watch a little ball fling into the outfield to signify a hit, a pretty cool technology if you ask me and its for free, for now

by 17MarlinS35 on Jun 10, 2006 12:20 AM EDT up reply actions

that is kinda cool
didn't see the pitcher  but I did get to see the little ball flying across the diamond.

by craig on Jun 10, 2006 12:33 AM EDT up reply actions

i mean
its kinda lame that anyone would follow an entire game on that little thing, but back in the day i used to watch games on mlb's gameday, so espn's gamecast is a definite upgrade, but luckily mlb.tv has arrived, if only the nfl and nba would follow

by 17MarlinS35 on Jun 10, 2006 12:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Yep, that does Suck
If you live in Florida, your screwed.

You can do a web search for a way around it.  There are some out there.  But you didn't hear it from me.

by craig on Jun 10, 2006 12:22 AM EDT up reply actions

hmm
i'll have to look into it ..... its hard enough catching the majority of the mets games as it is, but it would be nice to catch some marlins games as well
