Open Thread and Ichthyomancy: Cardinals at Marlins (5/5)

Fresh off our team's first series win, did I mention it was a sweep, the Fightin' Fish return home to face the Cardinals.

Pitching for the Marlins tonight is Sergio Mitre.  The Red Birds will be sending Jeff Suppan to the hill.

Game time is 7:35 p.m.

Suppan has had a rough time on the road this season allowing 13 runs in only 7 innings.  Hopefully he hasn't found a way to right the ship just yet.

It is time for Ichthyomancy,  Be sure to get your picks in on time and if you haven't joined us before now - you really should.

[Update] Welcome CardNilly! To play Ichthyomancy you just guess the attendance, pick the Cardinal who will make the biggest contribution during the game and something unusual to happen. (i.e. Pujols performs a suicide squeeze bunt) It's that simple.

FishStripers, in addition to checking out CardNilly you may want to also peruse, fellow SBN site, Viva El Birdos.

Here's today's Ichthyomancy pick table:

Well guys
I've got a hot date and I'm leaving for prom in half an hour, so I won't be able to watch the game with you.

Let's go with Willingham for PoG and for AAB, let's go with: Marlin's errors = Pujols' strike outs.

The power went out at the stadium
it took about 10 to 15 minutes to get the lights back up

Somebody should run in and tell the politicians...
You see what happens?  The stadium doesn't work, and it ends up screwing the team.

Speaking of, the Spring Training bill passed in the house, which may or may not be good news.  On the one hand, it lets a city/county use a half-percent of sales tax on a stadium.  On the other hand, that's the bill that those bastards added the Magic provision to in order to make the full subsidy bill less likely to pass.

That bill is yet to be voted on.

This has been your "Dan searched Google News to find an update and may or may not have summarized it correctly" newsbreak.

I'm not someone to use emoticons, but...
:-(
The measure (HB 615) had passed on a 20-16 vote in the Senate only moments earlier, but time ran out.

"It's midnight," Speaker Allan Bense said. "We're done."

The Senate voted 20-16 after a vigorous half-hour debate when opponents said it would be a bad idea to subsidize a professional sports team just minutes after passing an insurance measure that does little to clamp down on runaway property insurance rates.
