Around SBN: Will Rhymes 'Fine' After Being Hit By Pitch And Fainting

Open Thread and Ichtyomancy: Marlins at Astros (4/4)

Tonight's feature starters are: Sergio Mitre for the Marlins with Andy Pettitte representing for the Astros.  Game time is at 8:05 p.m.

On paper we may be a bit over matched but it isn't anything Sergio hasn't seen before:

Right-hander Sergio Mitre isn't concerned about making his Marlins' debut tonight against veteran left-hander Andy Pettitte.

"My major-league debut was against (Greg) Maddux. I've faced Roger (Clemens), I've faced (Roy) Halladay, (Josh) Beckett. I have a knack for that," he said.

"It is a big deal, but it's fun having to go against guys like that."

Serg you go get 'em.  But I do have a suggestion for you: don't play the lottery - you ain't lucky.

I may do some "cooler things" to the open thread but, as Wiggins surmised, it definitely won't be until I get back to my place of residence.

I have tickets to the game tonight and maybe in attendance.

All that is left to say is:  Go Fish!

[ED - by wiggins] I'm putting this up early today since I may not be back before game time, and Craig is still out of town.  Get your picks in whenever!

Suh-weet!
And the Fish are .500, and I'm betting there are people in the country who thought the Marlins would never achieve that number, even after two games.

I would assume Double Dinger Hammer is PoG?  Could be Mitre, I suppose.  Or Hanley, or Jacobs...dang, I wouldn't want to have to make that choice tonight.  Good problem to have, though. Anyway, the good guys win.  Woo hoo!

by Dr F on Apr 4, 2006 11:04 PM EDT reply actions

I
Would go with Hanley. 4-5, 1 double, 3 rbi.

by bobbob1313 on Apr 4, 2006 11:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Points
Dr F wins the attendance point.

I am going to say that Mitre, Willingham, and Hanley are point-worthy tonight.  It's tough leaving Jacobs and Cabrera off, but I really can't see leaving the other three off.  So - Dr F, Fluxuation, Madhatter, and Dan all get player points tonight.

There was some serious AAB pick activity tonight.  I nailed mine, and so did bobbob and Colombo - those were good for one point each.

I can't verify Madhatter's, and didn't see most of the game - did Hanley make any good defensive plays?  We might just have to pass on that pick, unless someone comes to his defense.  Same with dan's - unfortunately, while I like the spirit, I think that pick is not really one we can use, especially as it often winds up like tonight.  Again - unless people wish to ride to his rescue.

Taking the fun out of it - for everyone.

by wiggins on Apr 4, 2006 11:15 PM EDT reply actions

Hanley
I was listening, not watching, so I can't really say, but the announcers seemed to give Hanley credit for a good play, plus part of a good double play (but I won't be watching Baseball Tonight either).

My AAB...
"Same with dan's - unfortunately, while I like the spirit, I think that pick is not really one we can use, especially as it often winds up like tonight.  Again - unless people wish to ride to his rescue."

No that's totally fine.  I thought about it a little later and was like "Wait, what if he doesn't get a steal or make an error?  Yeah that's equal but come on."

I'm not even sure if 1 and 1 would have been that extraordinary an event.  Bad pick on my part.

by dan 2.0 on Apr 5, 2006 2:50 AM EDT up reply actions

Not a bad pick, really -
maybe just not so well thought out at the the time.  But then - you were running late, no?  As the season wears on, I think we all sort of adopt "no-brainer emergency picks" that we can always fall back on without having to think to much, when we need them.

You'll get there...

Taking the fun out of it - for everyone.

by HadMatter on Apr 5, 2006 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions

First off -
Sorry about the name - I was just not paying attention.  I remember noticing that before and completely forgot yesterday.  Oops.

As to the pick - I'll give it to you.  He certainly redeemed himself in the game and did not make a fool of himself in the field, and by all reports made some good plays.

However - in the future, if you (and everyone else) would help us out by making picks that could hopefully be verified either in the box-score or the recap (an event that couldn't be missed, say "Barry Bonds goes psycho - kills three umpires" kind of thing) that would be helpful to us and to you in getting your points.  Thanks!
