FishStripes Fantasy League?

Okay - so who's up for it?  I can set up a yahoo league no problem - how should we do it?  Standard 5x5?  Auto-draft?  I can't imagine we'll be able to find a time when most people will be able to actually do the draft...

I know I dropped the ball on that whole movie deal, but I feel confident in my abilites on this one - who's on board?

So you don't have to read all the comments if you don't want to - we have made it low commitment, fantasy baseball. Weekly roster changes, maximum of 20 player acquisitions in season. We'll take it nice and easy for those with not a lot of time to spend on this...

Would love to
but baseball roto takes more thank than football... my grades are down this semester as it is.

Have fun, though!

Dude
If your grades are already down, you might as well punt the semester. By the time the fall semester starts up, you'll know if you're in contention or not.

Besides, let Summer Wheatley manage your team. I'm sure she couldn't do any worse than you.

If you play, are you going to have an all-Philly offense again? I think you should. That was awesome in football... until TO imploded and the Eagles soon followed.

"Cherish the time." -- R.A.M.

by mike42 on Mar 3, 2006 2:45 PM EST up reply actions

hmm....
Punting... probably not my best option right now.  When I say my grades are down, that's kind of relative.  I'm not failing or anything.  I'm trying to finish strong and get the same grades I got last semester.

As for Summ Wheately, if only you knew how wrong you were.  I may be incompetent, but at least I know what guys' names are on baseball teams.

Come to think of it, random might be better.  Look how my strategic Philly offense of last season worked out... a big load of crap.  How is it possible for three of the best fantasy players from last season to ALL get hurt and involved in controversy?

Oh yeah, I picked them for my team.

Maybe I should play and pick a bunch of Braves and Mets.  They'll be sure to suck then.

You don't have her trained, re baseball?
That's sad. All the more reason for me to be surprised that you didn't get engaged on V-day.

What's Grant Hill's quote about doctors (after all of his surgeries)? It's something like "someone always graduates last from med school." Why can't that be you? You'd still have the degree and you'd have had more fun while you were in school.

Ok, I'm obviously kidding. But you should play roto anyway. That way you and I can be passive about it and Wiggins can go nuts making moves all year. And at the end of the year we'll probably beat him anyway.

"Cherish the time." -- R.A.M.

by mike42 on Mar 3, 2006 2:54 PM EST up reply actions

If I play
Then I have to resign myself to sucking, as opposed to constantly fighting it in vain.

Come to think of it, it works for Wiggins... why can't it work for me?

I'll consider this.  But carolina has to play... I need at least one person who is less committed to it then me so I'm not DEAD last.  lol

So sez the football champion
Standard 5x5 works for me. There's no way that I'm in if it's a live draft -- auto draft only.

I can't promise to keep up with this all year, so I will be easily beaten.

How many people do we need? Should we humiliate the Gaslampballers again by inviting them to participate?

Is it going to be a mixed league or would we go NL only? I think I'd prefer mixed.

If we don't get too many people, maybe we'll limit it to NL only.

I don't know
Is their a commissioner setting?

A long time ago (since I'm so old) I played in a league where you could only make changes on Sundays -- something like that. Is that an option with the Yahoo league?

"Cherish the time." -- R.A.M.

by mike42 on Mar 3, 2006 3:52 PM EST up reply actions

Yup.
I can change it so that we can only make weekly changes.  Also - we could limit the number of transactions.  Does a player acquisition maximum of 20 sound reasonable?  We could do less if we want to really handcuff...
Taking the fun out of it - for everyone.

by wiggins on Mar 3, 2006 3:59 PM EST up reply actions

20 sounds reasonable
Maybe you could make exceptions as commissioner if ARod's head implodes in July or if Roger Clemens' arm falls off. While both events would be cool, they could cripple someone's team -- especially if they're out of moves.
"Cherish the time." -- R.A.M.
