Music Help

I'm sure that I could Google this, but I'm also sure that some of our more enterprising music types might know the best solution. Here's my situation...

My new car can play MP3s in the CD changer. I know I'm the last person on Earth to learn this, but that means that I can get more songs onto each CD by making them MP3s... so I tried to take advantage of that by burning MP3 CDs in iTunes. But there were only about three songs in my whole iTunes library (mostly made up of CDs that I have owned for a long time) that could be burned as MP3s.

How can I make MP3 CDs? If possible, I'd prefer a free/freeware solution?

(Is there still such a thing as freeware or did I just date myself?)

Oh yeah.
And I don't know how any of this crap works, either.

Oh well.

Well, you're ahead of me
You introduced me to iTunes and my musical capabilities begin and end there. But I did thank you for that, right? I've put those skills to good use.

I don't use iTunes
But if you check under "preferences" there's probably a way to change the format your CDs will be saved under.
I don't really know how to do it, so I don't worry about it.

That might work
I'll try that... although I might have to re-add the CDs to my library. I might just try to burn them as MP3s through another program tonight.

jscape 2000 is correct
Click on "Edit" in the top menu

Then "Preferences"

Click on the "Burning" tab at the top.

Your choices of Disk Format are: "Audio CD", "MP3 CD", or "Data CD"

Choose "MP3 CD" and then burn away.

(the above are for the windows version)

I tried that
But iTunes tells me that songs I bought through them can't be burned as MP3s and that nearly all of the songs I added from my CDs can't be converted to MP3s either.

That's because
you loaded them with the AAC encoder.  You need to upload them with the MP3 encoder.

It's in preferences, advanced tab, Importing.

Oh - gotcha now
I was thinking the burning tab when you said that. Now I get it.

Rip your CD's as Mp3's
Then burn them onto a CD.  You can probably use itunes (I don't know that program well), but I use windows media player.  You need to download a plug-in, but it works well.

I'll try this. Thanks!
BTW - My R.A.M. song was one of the three that I was able to burn onto an MP3 CD.

Over the hill...
...and damn proud of it.  Heck, I still own LPs.  Can't play 'em anywhere, even in my classroom most of the time, but dadgummit, I still own 'em.
