I don't have time to write this up, but for those that prowl this site, here's the info:
The Marlins fired first-year manager Joe Girardi this morning, ending an acrimonious and sometimes confrontational relationship with the Marlins owner and front office members....Girardi met Tuesday morning with club officials. The meeting was described as ``short, brief.'

Bottom line: he knows the organization, he's had heaps of success at the minor league level, and he speaks Spanish (a trait about which much has been made in recent years).
A better candidate for this team, there wasn't.

No point wasting time, I guess
I suppose now there might be a little more pressure on Beinfest. If the Fish take a step back next year, even a small one (a thing which historically is almost inevitable), a lot of heat (relatively speaking) will fall on Fredi, and some of that will fall on Beinfest.
But that's next year. Do you suppose if, say, Girardi gets hired by Washington, we might see an interesting dynamic between the two teams?
